Very cool!
I'll admit,at first I didn't like this game too much. One reason being that like alot of new rpgs nowadays,it makes the grave error of throwing a bunch of info at you when you first start to play. This isn't really a game that you can just pop in and understand everything right off the bat.You have to learn how this world works which includes creating new items and getting along with your singing partner (no,I can't remember the actual term because it's spelled ridculous)However,it was a breath of fresh air when I realized that all of these methods were not really very complex at all,and in fact, quite fun and addicting! The whole aspect of "diving" into the singer is quite unique and even romantic in a way.Earning more points during battle to explore further into her psyche is an excellent concept. You had to laugh when one of the main female characters said to the hero "dive into me now!" at which the hero replies "are you sure you want me to?",then she says "damn straight, and next time be a man and make the first move!"All good fun,and you can't help but think the developers of this game have a great sense of humor! The graphics/effects are pretty cool esp. in combat when you join with the singers. It also give you the option to turn off the voices in the storyline dialouge(which I did;I guess I'm a fan of old school rpg gaming)However the voice acting during battle was very good. All in all this is a great game that you will have alot of fun with.Just keep in mind that at first all of it may seem overwhelming. You eventually get the hang of it and are then treated with a different rpg treasure!

Good Old Fashioned Japanese RPG'ing
Ar Tonelico is one of those JRPG's you either love or hate. If you are a fan of NIS/Gust games (Mana Khemia, Antelier Iris series) then this entry will do just fine. Without any spoilers, this game delivers an amazing, over-the-top musical score the moment you pop the game in. This soundtrack ranks among the very best in any RPG to date, even rivaling Final Fantasy! I would recommend that you find a copy of the original soundtrack if you are a collector of game music. Gameplay is fun, simple and addictive with the synthesis collection system (the mainstay of every Gust game) called the Grathmeld. This is not a very difficult game to play, but the story and graphics will do the game some justice. The graphics are colorful and solid- silimar to Mana Khemia and somehow superior to Antelier Iris I, and the more detailed character graphics during conversations and storylines are excellent. Character development becomes more interesting once you discover the "Dive" option. At this point, relationships between characters become even more intimate. Overall, this is an enjoyable title to sink some hours into before Ar Tonelico II arrives. Enjoy!!

Not as engaging and good as the 2nd title but I'll take it.
Took me a long while to finally but this because of greedy sellers. Paid around 40 bucks for this mediocre title!! NOT WORTH THE AMOUNT. The game is not that challenging(like the 2nd title). Limited enemy encounters suck. Enough of the cons. The multiple ending feature is great. I like the characters but nothing special. Costume changes I do like. The diving in the minds I do like. The music is really good too. I can't say if it's worth 40 or more dollars for YOU but if it is: I'm happy for you. You may luck out and find it cheaper......Maybe.

A solid B
It's been a long while since I played this so I can't really give many specifics, but it does alright. The combat is fun, fast paced, and requires a degree of planning. The characters are well fleshed out and pretty interesting to observe. They offer some genuine fun and all the sexual subtext can get pretty funny at times. The world is rather unique.Diverging story-lines offer replay value. The item crafting system is rather well done, which is something very rarely pulled off by Gust.My biggest complaint was the story though. It really feels like you meander around for a long, long time. Oddly enough, the section of the game leading up to the "True" ending is far more interesting than the rest that came before it.

Love this game
Classical graphics, hilarious story line that can get tense and serious (but always knows when to lighten the mood), and a simple battle system. The learning curve for this game is only a couple of minutes, and once you get the hang of it everything is smooth sailing. I played this through a few times, and I still love it. ALways seems to be something different. The interactions with the Reyvateils is always a treat, and the further you get, the funnier the conversations and expressions. That, and they made their own special items if they like you, such as BBQ Soda, and cute bunny bombs. This isn't really a spoiler, but there is a third part to the game, depending on the options you choose at the end of the second part. Adds some gameplay, and a fun (kinda) new character to fight with...

Refreshingly deep, turn-based JRPG game
Ar tonelico Melody of Elemia is a welcome, refreshing RPG game. It features a unique turn-based combat system which takes only a bit of getting used to. I think the battle system is superior to the sequel, Melody of Metafalica, but is not as expansive and deep as the sequel (which is understandable). The characters are entertaining and the story is not too slow. The difficulty and frequent spelling/grammar errors are the only issues I have with this game. The game is generally too easy, but heats up in the third phase of the game unless you powerlevel beforehand.Overall, this game is amazing. I lost sleep over it, which means I was hooked on the gameplay. If you love deep characters, stories and RPG games, then this game is for you!

Ar Tonelico
I really enjoyed this game. I think the areas were more diverse and varied than the second game and the controls were a little easier on my thumbs. The translation could have been better, but I like the fact that you aren't limited to only one girl's higher level songs. I didn't like the endings very much, though. There really wasn't anything bad about them, I just hate open endings. Over all it was a great game and I highly recommend it and it's sequel to anyone looking for a little variety in their RPG library.

One of the Best jRPG
Ar Tonelico is one of my all time favorites, providing us with excellent gameplay and what I consider some of the best soundtracks to have ever been given life through a video game. The series are heavy story-wise too, with a lot of dialogs to read. Do note that they are also filled with innuendos, in case this is a factor for you.
