The first mainline 3D game in the series is a resounding success.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is an important game. Not only is it the first ever 3D game in the main series (so not counting spin-offs like Air Ride or Blowout Blast), but it's genuinely one of the best games in the series. It perfectly captures the fun, charm, and overall game-feel of the modern 2D games, translating it into a fun linear 3D platformer. The gameplay is what you'd expect from the series. Kirby traverses through linear levels with secrets tucked away all throughout, and must devour enemies to copy their powers, solve puzzles and defeat other enemies, before reaching the goal. There are five or so levels found in 6 worlds, with a bossfight awaiting you at the end of each world. Aside from taking Kirby's core design tennants and applying them to a 3D platformer, Forgotten Land has a bevy of new features to differenciate it from every other game in the series. For one, there's the Mouthful abilities. Kirby can swallow up real-world objects and use them to take on challenges or obstacles in your way. These range from Traffic Cones that can smash through cracks in the ground, to a car that can boost through enemies and walls at high speeds, to a tap that allows Kirby to carry water in his mouth and spew it out to clear fire and sludge. In addition to this, copy abilities can now be upgraded, allowing you to get stronger and fight the increasingly challenging foes with relative ease (so long as you have the Rare Stones needed to craft them). It's so rewarding to see abilities like Hammer and Ranger improve as the game progresses. The main collectibles needed for progression though later levels this time are caged Waddle Dees. The more of them Kirby rescues, the more developed the main hub area of the game, Waddle Dee Town, will become. Shops, minigames, a boss arena, and other features that were previously found on the main menu of past Kirby games, are found here instead, and it makes searching for all the Waddle Dees that much more rewarding. The Town itself has plenty of replay value to offer, and even upgrades and other rewards that can be found through exploration. It's a welcome addition to the series. Each level in the game proves that HAL Laboratory have a grasp on what makes good 3D game design. The copy abilities are utilised to their fullest all throughout the game, especially in the optional Challenge areas (many of which are hidden on the World Map). No two levels feel alike, despite sharing a similar motif, and while we do have the conventional Nintendo tropes of grass, desert, beach, snow and Lava worlds, more effort has been put into giving them more nuance and variety on a level-by-level basis. A shopping mall and city areas in the grass world, and a bay area and underground sewers/rapids in the beach world, are much-appreciated efforts in breathing new life in otherwise tired tropes. All of this is further amplified by a gorgeous art-direction. If you loved the visuals from Star Allies, then this game will provide you a feast for the eyes.If I had to levy one complaint towards the game, it would have to be the lack of variety in copy abilities, and how some of the more iconic ones from past games were omitted here. Even so, I can afford the game some leeway, as this was HAL's first main 3D Kirby game, and a successful one at that. This minor complaint will no doubt be addressed in future games, as they use Forgotten Land as a foundation to build and expand upon. So for now, I'll forgive HAL for not including Water Kirby (the best copy ability). In conclusion, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a triumphant new beginning for the long-running Nintendo franchise. It's the culmination of years of prototyping and experimentation from developers who struggled to make a true 3D game in the series they would feel proud of. We've seen some of this progress in spin-offs like Kirby's Air Ride, Kirby Battle Royale, Kirby's Blowout Blast, and even moments throughout Kirby Star Allies. It's been a long-time coming, and with Kirby's 2D games peaking at Planet Robobot, and Star Allies serving as a celebration of the series' history and last hoorah, Forgotten Land was the logical next step for the series to take. I highly recommend it to veterans and newcomers to this series, and anyone with a fondness for 3D platformers. It easily takes the top spot for my game of the year, as of writing this review.

Fantastic multiplayer for kids and adults
One thing I like Nintendo for, is their range of games that appeal to all ages and can be easily played by both adults and children alike. Kirby and the Forgotten land is no exception to this. This is a fantastically colourful game which is a joy to play. The multiplayer option ( for 2 players ) means that I can play this with my Kirby mad 7 year old - on the easiest setting, the game is more enjoyable for them rather than challenging. Although even on the most difficult setting, this isn't a difficult game. I should point out that the multiplayer option doesn't become available until after playing the intro. Visually, the 3D graphics are colourful and there are lots of places to visit, enemies to battle, with all the usual features inc boss fights, hidden extras, upgrading abilities, puzzles, etc. My daughter loves that Kirby can swallow up a variety of items and gain certain abilities - the car causes lots of amusement! Waddle Dee town offers a little bit of colourful refuge from the main game where you can purchase ability upgrades, talk to the town's folk and just chill out. This is a great game, sure to provide hours of fun and especially good if you're looking for a game that you can enjoy playing with your kids.

Surprisingly fun for adults, not just kids.
I bought it as a game to play 2 players with my sisters kids when I look after them but found the despite of kiddy visuals and simple controls it's a well made game if a little too easy for adults. My sisters kids love playing it 2 players together or with me and while not hard played normally the challenges and after story content offers something more difficult for experienced and adults player's.Definitely surprised by this game it is well worth the money they really cared about making a good game accessible to kids but fun for adults too.If you want to spend time with your kids and are not a video game player but your kid is this is perfect for you to learn to play them and spend time with your kids even if it's your first game.

Fun and easy for younger kids
My son loves this game! He is 6 and finds it fun and easy enough for him to play through the levels on his own. Would recommend to any lover of Kirby or Mario.

Great game, for children and adult alike
It's a really good game. Doesn't really matter if you know Kirby, because the game will give you the backstory. I don't want to spoil too much, but if you're thinking of getting a switch game, this should be your choice! Easy to learn as well.
