Brilliant - the essential guide for ultrarunners
Excellent. Comprehensive and thorough, really well researched and written, clear and easy to understand, can't fault it. It's rare to find a book of this size and complexity that's so hard to put down.

Great around training book, covering all aspects of Ultra running.
This book covers some many topics related to ultrarunning training, which is a fairly neche sport. There is a lot of detailed information, but it is presented well and is easy to digest. If you want to learn how to train to run an ultra or want to improve you ultrarunning, this is a must read.

Great content poorly edited
The kindle version is so frustrating! Labels for figures run into the text, sentances are not finished, words have gaps within them and some figures seem to have been replaced with a repeat of an earlier one.I will swap for the paper version if I knew it were going to be better, but first I’m listening to the Audiobook on Audible instead as the concept of training plan building seems so logical and clear and I like the citations of the original reseach.

The perfect training essentials!
Have been running a year now but the last few months I have really got into long distance trail running.Having signed up for a couple of ultras, I thought I’d better start training correctly, instead of just going out for a run (which isn’t such a bad thing!)Having read the book now, I have got the perfect plan to train not just my running, but my entire body and mind.Would highly recommend to anyone of any stage in their running career to read, as you’ll find Jason cuts through a lot of the crap that we’ve been lead to believe over the years and gives advice based on actual science, not anecdotal.

the book says so many things that it does not say anything at all!
I am really disappointed. If a book titled ‘training essentials’ is that big, how many volumes for the expert ultra running book? The book contains so much information that by taking the advice from different specific chapters one would have massively contradicting information each time; in a way, it says so many things that it does not say anything at all! One could easily write a book much smaller and more useful. This book will not take anyone to achieve their first 100k and probably not even their first 50k. The book assumes that you have been an ultra runner for many years, but then probably you do not need the book anyway.
