Yes there is a vent hole. There is one tab-you may still want to hold onto the lid. Yes there are 7 filter holes. I use tea bags.

It actually holds more than 12 ounces of water. I have a small 12 ounce mug that I always use for my tea, and this teapot gives me one and a half mugs full.
