This is one of the best autobiographies I have ever read
This is one of the best autobiographies I have ever read. I have been a Merle Haggard fan for many years, and bought the first book about his life many years ago and liked it a lot. This newer book is more in depth about his life. He was a very interesting person, bad boy turned good man. I hated to see the book end. I bought a copy for my sister for Christmas, and she also loved it. You can learn so much about a person. There are a lot of funny things about his life and also some sad things. He was a very talented man who was able to turn his life around and become a great man who is loved by many.

He has always been one of my favorite entertainers. Earlier this year
As a boy, I listened to Merle Haggard from the back seat of our Ford LTD (the color varied, it was always an LTD) on the 8-track. He has always been one of my favorite entertainers. Earlier this year, my wife and I were lucky enough to see him in concert. So much talent packed into one human being is almost unfathomable.I read a lot of biographies and autobiographies, and I can tell you that this one hit me as a bare-knuckled telling of a life. As a lifelong fan, I expected nothing less from the working man's poet. If you want to know about Merle Haggard, this is the book to read.Merle's style of storytelling is well-paced and entertaining. Mixing periods of time within a scene, jumping to the past, then back, is a very tricky thing to pull off (I'm a writer, so I know how hard this is to do well), but Merle makes it seem natural. His style of writing will make you feel like you are sitting and listening to him tell you about his life, and you will be amazed.

Merle Tells it All
Well written; Merle tells it as it happened, without deleting any negative information about himself. He did not hold back on all his bad behaviors. He allowed us into his private life of trouble, his inability to stay with one person and not get into activities he knew were illegal. He built a financial nest for his family, despite his bad decisions and irresponsible spending habits, as well as substance abuse and his tragic health issues. Good read and I recommend it to all Merle Haggard fans/country music fans.

Brutally honest
What a story...what a life! I could not put it down. Normally for me, reading a book is a few pages or a chapter at night until I get sleepy and put it down. Not this one! I read it in 3 days! If I have anything negative at all to say, it would be that sometimes the story jumps around and gets sidetracked. But not a big enough distraction to bypass reading it. Great story.

Great book but cover torn
My father said this book is very interesting and he is enjoying reading it. Unfortunately, I ordered this as a gift and the top middle part of the cover was torn. My Dad said he will tape it, but I really don't like giving a torn book as a gift but I didn't have time to return it before I needed to give it to him.

Great Read!!
I have enjoyed reading this honest account of Merle's life! Not an easy life after his Father's passing but even with all his troubles he truly was a great talent, wonderful father and husband (to his last wife) and Godly Man!!

Merle's House of Memories is a must read for a true Hag fan
Well, thanks to computers, I have been fortunate enough to read Autobiographies written by some of our greatest country music entertainers, Johnny, George, Loretta and Tammy, to name a few.I really liked Merle's book for it's honesty/simplicity and thanks for the large font. Merle, I knew that you had been in prison, I really did not care why, I only knew many years ago that I loved your voice and the lyrics that you write. I have seen some similar things here and my blood boiled over the wrongs that you endured. But thanks for the book, one fan here wishes you and your family well. I must say though, that when "It's not love, but it's not bad" came out, the caftan had me confused. Read this book and if it does not make you a little irate with "The Sytem", it should.
