Unrepentant torch buyer
If you are one of those sad middle age men who buy a lot of torches (yes, you...) then this may be for you. As a sad torch buyer myself I have bought rather a lot over the years, some better than others. This unit has two stand-out features, which is just as well as it's on the pricey side. Firstly the build quality is really excellent from the outside casing, lens system, to the battery pack (which typically are pretty poor on mass produced torches). The other thing is that the beam pattern is so flat and even that you could use it as a photographic light - there is virtually no hot spot. Even zoomed in, there is no sign of the normal distortion typical of LED torch beams. Brightness is very good too.Personally this is my favourite LED torch so far and I may just have a look to see what else this company makes - just in case I ever need another torch!

Brilliant brilliance!
To start with I initially balked at the price. I could not conceive that any torch was worth that amount of money. I then researched why the company was brave enough to put itself at that price point. The claims are quite something. Something to live up to as well. When the torch went in a lightening sale for £31, I decided to take a chance. I knew it would be good or it was going back! Over the years I have bought maglites, torches of a million candles, mini torches, torches for camping, torches for ....well...just about everything. Each was OK in many ways, but weak in others. None were all rounders. This torch takes AAA batteries and I like that because I always have them in and you can buy good batteries at fair prices. The fact the battery compartment comes out is excellent for me. No more fiddling trying to get the series of batteries to stay in place. The screwing and uncpscrewing of the battery compartment is solid, but not difficult. As I have arthritis in my hands, this is a big deal. I didn't think I would care for the strap or the pouch. I have so many of that kind of stuff sitting in drawers, but actually both are very useful. The wrist strap is useful because the torch is light and small, so it is easy to let it go to open a door etc without thumping your wrist. The pouch is great as it is snug, but ergonomically well designed. It can be attached to a belt without undoing your belt, it has a clip, like a small karabiner and a strap with Velcro and a punch clip, so I don't think it is coming off any time soon.So to the light. They say it will work well up to 100m. They say there will be no shadow or black spot. They maintain the lumens mean nothing. All of this is not just true, you realise that your previous torches were deficient in all respects once this torch is turned on. It isn't the light you expect from a torch. It is sharp, it is clear and it has both depth for detail and distance. My torch is used to get my hens, ducks and geese in from the field. Now, hens are hard to spot normally at dusk. No problem with this torch. It does shine the 100m, it really is as if someone turned a floodlight on, just for me. I can close coops, stables, open and shut gates...and see!On reflection, this is a cheap torch. I won't buy another one. I wish I had never bought all those cheaper ones before. They were a waste of money. To be fair, I will look after the torch because it was expensive, but it is sturdy and will take a fair battering. I am not worried about the rain or dropping it or even the animals standing on it...well save the zwarbles (very large sheep). As soon as I got my mitts on it I tried to buy a second one at the same price...nope ... That is lightening deals for you. If Santa is listening...a keyring one would be great.

Surprisingly disappointing
Update: December 27 2018 - Since I posted my orignal review, Amazon has corrected the item listing to feature the correct lumen rating. However, my review points remain valid.1) This is a 320 lumen torch at full boost, not a 400 lumen one as stated in the product’s title.2) The body of the torch scratches very easily3) The zoom (and I did disengage the zoom lock) was extremely stiff, making one-handed operation impossible. That said, the 320 lumen output is very impressive, and this is a lightweight torch that fits well in your hand. The webbing belt holder that comes with it is, like most LED Lenser holders, extremely robust and well made.Just a shame it isn’t 400 lumen as advertised.

Daylight in a stick
This thing is basically one step away from being a light saber. I spend a fair amount of time in pitch black, underground storage areas and using this makes the world of difference. Super bright and using the focus will send a tight beam well over a hundred feet.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me ...
This was my second Led Lenser and it's also the second one to fail in exactly the same way. Both failed with the switch mechanism failing and the torch not being able to turn fully off. When off the LED glows ever so faintly. Of course, this drains even new batteries in a week or so. This fault is a well known problem with these torches. The batteries leak (and I use Duracell batteries which are not supposed to leak) and some acid gets into the switch mechanism and causes a short circuit. You can remove the battery cage and clean it all you like - sometimes (so I read online) that solves the issue. Mostly though the acid will have leaked into the switch mechanism itself and that is not accessible. So, £45 torch in the bin. It appears that the company knows about this which is why you can buy new battery cages. For me this has now happened twice - I'm not going to spend over £20 for a new battery cage, I'll just buy a new torch. It will not be a LED Lenser torch.

Great torch and super bright for its small size
I had one of the older versions of this till I lost it and then bought this with a voucher.Great torch and super bright for its small size. The push-pull zoom is really handy and much better and easier to use with gloves than the twist. It has two brightness settings - one click for very bright, an additional click for lower brightness, and a further click for off. I guess this is handy if you want to preserve the battery - not that it drains quickly this is an LED after all - but it has meant that a couple of times I've left it on in my pocket without noticing.
