How to Love a Black Man

I love a good self help book and this is one of the great ones. During a time when black men and women are so against each other in love, a book like this is crucial. Some of the advice given is already advice that I apply to my relationship, but some is new for me. As he stated some of it will challenge you, but it’s so worth it. Definitely a great read. I’m already planning on gifting this to someone who is getting married next year! Buy it! You won’t regret it

We thoroughly enjoy one another and exchange "I love you" affirmations. It's been 3 years but we continue to hit the same stumbling blocks. We admitted to each other we both considered walking away but here we are. Off and on, I've tried to figure out what the problem is so we can fix it. It's not hard to spot what he needs to change and why. The difficulty lies in looking within myself and finding what I need to change and why.Reading Elmore's book has been an eye-opening experience for me. I am finally able to see what's been holding us back from having a closer relationship. Elmore's writing style is direct, easy to understand, and to the point. The best part is the specific suggestions about how to initiate those behavior changes that will make a positive difference.

I bought this book several years ago and enjoyed it then. I was in my home library and decided to revisit it because it was such a good read. As with any book it could use updating on the examples but the advice is solid and covers a broad range of topics. I think any woman, young or old, will benefit from the concepts in the book. It's not a one sized fits all type of book with regards to advice on dating a black man as there are some situations that are unique to the black male experience and black culture in general but I will say that the book can probably help you in a relationship with any man. I recommend this to anyone who wants to know better and do better in their relationship with a black man!

This book is filled with practical advice on love relationships for Black women to more easily be in love with the Black man she chooses. The book reads in a gentle tone. It isn't pointing the finger or blaming either party for what goes wrong in relationships. It focuses solely on how to make them better and uses stories that just about all of us can relate to in order to help women embrace the truth.What I REALLY appreciated was the brevity of the book. Elmore didn't waste time being redundant like a lot of authors do. He was straight to the point which made this an easy and exciting read. One drawback was the lack of information on the five "love substitutes". He went over these briefly and although I found the information valuable, I felt like he left me hanging. The love substitutes made me question "why" I adopted these traits. And furthermore, I wanted to know how to change them. This was not covered.Still, this book is perfect for Black women who want to understand Black men. Especially if you weren't taught how to relate to them. It helps you to unpack things about yourself and it helps you to accept some things for what they are when it comes to men such as the fact that they're much different from us. Plain and simple.I'm recommending this book to all of my clients and to Black men and women no matter their relationship status. We need it!

This book is highly recommended for those who are seeking a how to have a fulfilling life with their man. Reading the first two pages and I immediately started to laugh, because what was written was and is so true. This book is not what you think it is about. A list of rules on how to pamper, feed, and love you man. This book is about how you as a woman need to learn how to deal with the type of person you are when seeking a man and learning how to undo some of those things. I am not giving anything away. You have to have an open mind. Because if you're seeking a bashing on black men- then you may just want to look some where else. This is an excellent read. I even bought, How to love a black woman for my husband and we are both reading. A good teaching tool for ALL BLACK WOMEN

Great honest, solid, mature information that is too too too good to read all at once. (Did I stress that it is too good?) I will keep this book forever. I did not find it boring in the least. No one is perfect, regardless of color or gender; everyone has insecurities, and a past not perfect. I notice men (of all colors) can be very devious and skilled at hiding those things behind what they might call a 'swagger' LOL. I say the bigger the swagger, the bigger the insecurity. Anyway, this solid information is necessary to understand yourself and your own motives, in loving ANY man, regardless of what color he is.

I have never been so pleased when opening a novel and reading it's pages as I was when I cracked opened How to Love a Black Man. This book identifies love in the urban situation and all of it's possibilities for greatness, no matter what your level is. It teaches the knowledge for successful unions from all standpoints and I have referred this book to many women alike. I think all could use a dose of How to Love a Black Man, even if you think you know everything about love and relationships. I thought I knew it all before I read it. This book was ok to read but its kind of all over the place. And there were some grammatical errors.

A Lovely book. My feeling is that it’s great advice on how to love any man. Good quality printing. Nice to hold and touch.Also regardless of the results with the man in your life (which I am sure if you follow many of the exercises will be very beneficial), I feel that the advice encourages you to become a happier, more empowered woman and person. I’ve only started reading this yesterday and I can’t put it down. I’m really looking forward to doing the exercises.I am really grateful to the author for this thoughtful, kind and intelligent advice, and I acknowledge all the people that made it possible for this book to be written and printed. I got this book for my house mate as a bit of a joke (as she has a thing for black men) and she seems to really like it and has said that she has got a lot of good advise from it :D even with my mate being partly sighted, she finds it easy to read.

The delivery was quick. The book is very interesting and gave some insight, yet am convinced that there is no absolute right or wrong, so definitely helpful, yet of course you still have to make an effort to get to know your man yourself. It's worth it!
