My cousin's in Italy add a local spice mix similar to this into there olive oil jar itself and then when serving spaghetti or other dishes sprinkle it on it for extra flavor and some heat. I loved it so they sent me home with some of the spice mix but when I ran out I searched for a replacement mix and got this and it's great. I just add enough into a bottle of good quality olive oil to fill like an eighth to a quarter of the bottom of the bottle and shake every now and then for a few weeks of steeping and done. You can use it to cook with or whatever but careful it is spicy hot, but good hot.

I absolutely LOVE Calabrian peppers and am a fan of anything that is considered too hot for most people. I've used this following the directions on the jar a couple of times now and it is absolutely delicious, but just know that you will basically be eating a plate of heat. I only gave it three stars for Versatility because it is so hot that it limits what you can actually do with it (and who can actually eat it), but I will continue to use it and see what other things I can add to the pan to make a more well-rounded meal out of it.

The flavors in this spice mix are excellent and have greatly improved the way we make spaghetti, pizza, and pasta. There is some slow-building heat from the Calabrian peppers, it's worth experimenting at first to find the right balance of heat and flavor for your taste. I use about 1/2 a box of spaghetti, boil the pasta, drain it and then toss it in a pan with about 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 2 tablespoons of butter, and a tablespoon or two of the spice mix. Toss the pasta well in the pan and you've got a great spaghetti. Add some parmesan cheese and some garlic bread, dinner is done. Of course you can add all sorts of other ingredients to the pasta such as mushrooms, red bell pepper, sun-dried tomatoes, olives, etc.. We're enjoying moving away from the heavier tomato sauce based recipes for spaghetti. The flavors of this spice mix are a 10 our of 10.

This product is over the top too spicy. We put a bit of red pepper flakes in our sauce. But this is way way WAY to Spicy…we can not use it, it is at least 90% red pepper flakes. Don’t purchase it. It ruins the sauce

I discovered the flavor and versatility of the Calabrian blend of spices when living in Europe, and this is the real stuff, identical to the blends I'd buy in Italy. Toss a quarter of a teaspoon of the spice mix into olive oil and you have a flavorful dip for bread. Combine with olive oil and red wine vinegar, then toss with chick peas/garbanzos for a healthy and delicious side dish. I don't use it with spaghetti and oil much, though when pressed for time I'll use it to spice up tomato sauce for a quick weekday meal.

I have been searching for a replacement for the unavailable Tones Spicy Spaghetti Seasoning-and sadly this is not it. There is mainly parsley in this mixture. While I do enjoy the large slices of garlic and the sun dried tomatoes, this is more heat and less Italian spices such as basil, oregano etc. I won’t be purchasing again. My search goes on…
