Great camera for 1080p
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. Great camera, easy to setup, caught a guy trying to break into a car. I’m now going with 4K to try to get license plates but you can see the clarity at night, it’s pretty good.

Great 1080p camera for Synology Surveillance Station
I bought five of these to install on the outside of my house and record to a Synology NAS running Surveillance Station. For the most part these are excellent cameras, and at $90, it's hard to beat the video quality, features and controls. The good:- Sharp and detailed 1080p@30fps videos. License plates and facial recognition are no problem.- While it's not the smallest bullet camera on the market, it's still pretty small compared to many other bullet cams.- Sturdy build, very weather resistant and many angle options.- I like that it's black where most other bullet cameras are white. Blends in better with darker houses.- IR lights reach about 30 feet comfortably, beyond that it's pretty dark.- Amcrest's IP camera discovery tool is great, making initial access and changes very easy.- Amcrest is officially supported by Synology Surveillance Station, and supports standard ONVIF for any other NVR system. The bad:- I'm taking off one star because the mobile stream is limited to 640x480 resolution, which means the aspect ratio looks really bad (squashed) on phones and other widescreen mobile devices. I wish Amcrest would release firmware that would allow for a widescreen resolution for the mobile stream. Unfortunately this setting is hard coded and cannot be changed by NVRs.A few other notes:Auto white balance, exposure & IR settings are fine for most people right out of the box but there are a lot of custom controls to tailor it to your liking. I personally leave everything on auto so when the light changes outside it compensates automatically, rather than forcing a certain setting at all times of the day. The stock settings for motion detection are pretty sensitive, meaning you will get a lot of nighttime videos of spiderwebs and insects flying in front of the lens. I'm currently testing different settings to try and avoid as much of that as I can while still getting decent detection. I'll edit this review later if I find the best balance. In summary, for $90, it's hard to beat this camera. It may not be the best in class, but it works, it records great video, and is very easy to configure and control. Definitely recommend this camera.

Can't Go Wrong With AMCREST!
The Amcrest ProHD IP2M-842E outdoor camera is a remarkably good camera for its price point. I wouldn't purchase an outdoor camera that wasn't POE. I already own Amcrest products so this purchase was a no brainer. I have a multi port POE injector in my basement and have CAT 6 currently running to four outdoor cameras, 3 of which are Amcrest. The longest run is 100+ feet and I've never had a moments blip. The POE injector I'm using is available on Amazon - TP-LINK 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet PoE Rackmount Switch with 8 PoE+ Ports (TL-SG1008PE). I've gotten so many cameras I'm going to have to purchase a larger POE injector. The camera is simple to install. If you can read simple instructions you've got it made. You can literally just snap the barcode on the camera with your smart phone and see your picture. I set all my cameras to a static IP so if power drops DHCP doesn't decide to assign another address. I use the Amcrest IP config program to discover what IP the camera is assigned when first initialized. I then set the IP to static and also assign a specific port for each camera. I create a DNS name as well. So I can view the camera on Lan, Wan, or wherever I might be at any given time. I also use Amcrest Blue Iris software which is outstanding. I haven't touched on anywhere near all the capabilities of the camera but I have got it where I receive text and email notification for any camera I have active detection defined. I've purchased other similarly priced cameras on Amazon but they have been difficult to maintain. I have a whole home generator with a UPS for router, switch, fiber connection and POE injector so I don't lose configuration due to a power outage. Prior to all that "protection" I never had a problem with Amcrest products. I keep a watchful eye on their sales and look forward to purchasing additional cameras in the future. I definitely recommend the Amcrest line of products for ease of use, installation and overall quality. And no, I didn't receive anything free. I just really like things that work without having to reset every two weeks. Do yourself a favor and always back up your configuration just in case.

Nice product wrong POE selection.
I recently decided to install a surveilance system in my home. I decided to buy a Synology diskstation as the NVR and then buy other branded quality cameras to finish up the system. I previously had installed a POE 24V switch that runs two Ubiquiti access points in my home. I thouhgt, "Hey I've already got the plugs and power so just add them to the switch and I'll be good." right? Wrong. I plugged in the camera and nothing happened. I did some digging and this particular camera apparently uses a 48V POE system. Luckily my "wifiTexas" POE product had the capability to run dual power types. I ordered a new 48V power supply and will know more if this solves the problem on Monday. As for the product it looks well made, has some heft and looks good. I'm going to install one first and see how the video quality looks then I might add more later.

The 842E cam build quality and reliability seems excellent (so far), BUT ....
I bought this Amcrest camera (IP2M-842E) to replace a recent purchase of a wireless Foscam which proved unreliable and went completely dead after a factory reset. The 842E cam build quality and reliability seems excellent (so far), and the web interface built into the camera itself for live viewing and configuration is also excellent (brilliant in fact) with many options – my congrats to these developers!OK – Now for the bad bit, in my view the PC software is poorly written, confusing and does not seem to deliver easy to use obvious functionality and does not address obvious use cases – “like show me all the ‘interesting’ bits of video in the last 24 hours”. I really do not expect to browse and review individual video files stored on my NAS in a weird multi-level directory structure – what a waste of my time. I also don’t expect your viewer software to ask me EVERY time I start it if it can take over the file association of all the various video file formats on my machine (avi, mp4, mov, asf etc etc) especially when my cam only creates one format (DAV files) – and this is just one example of the inconsiderate and poor programming.Seriously guys – where are you from – “the past”?These client software apps feel like they were written in the early 90s or before and with little usability consideration.OK – Now for the REALLY BAD bit. The camera only produces DAV files which are more or less proprietary encrypted files which cannot be played on anything other than the Amcrest viewer. I can understand this perhaps in a pro-business / industrial user type setting – i.e. to make sure the files have not been tampered with and thus eligible to act as crime evidence. But come on guys, for home users this is too much – I just want to video my hedgehogs in the garden and I don’t want barriers like obscure file formats in the way and I don’t want to be forced to use your very mediocre viewer app. At least give me the option to record in a standard video file format I can use with other viewers – life is too short to be messing around with non-standard files.Just my take – Amcrest, you have a really, really great piece of hardware, and your in-camera software guys have done a fantastic job. If me, I would fire your client software team and start again. Sad and sorry – but I’ll be moving onto something else. Alan.
