Flat out does not work.
Flat out does not work right out of the box. Got it to work one time after multiple tries.1. Vacuum attachment with sponge is put together so you cannot possible clean the sponge.2. Intermittently does not work out of the box. First time I turned it on I could hear the motor but nothing was coming out. Had to turn it off and on several times.3. Connections leak. I had to put teflon tape on the connection but then it still leaks when the tubing connects to the wand.4. Big and bulky and hard to maneuver around the rocks.5. The power switch is down near the plug???? Why just why? You literally have to put an extension cord on it and tie wrap the switch closer to the wand to have to close enough to turn off and on.6. This is the scary part. I think it is an AC pump??? Hopefully it shorts out but it is not a DC pump.I will try it for a few more days but not particularly happy with it. I had higher expectations from Hygger. I usually like their stuff but this is just not that good of a design.

This vacuum sucks.. too good 🤣
I love this vac. After reading some reviews and seeing some about how parts don’t fit, I don’t think they used the adapter that goes on after the main vac portion first or something. Everything works and fits perfectly on mine! There’s a ton of attachments for multiple uses. It’s pretty powerful.I have a 36 gal bow front Neo shrimp tank and a 55gal turtle tank. The only room for improvement I’ve noticed is that it would be better if there was some kind of power level control.-In my shrimp tank, I have fluval stratum substrate, which I don’t recommend vacuuming 🤣 I keep it about an inch or two away and it’s powerful enough to not suck it up but any dead roots/waste off the top layer. If I use the vacuum and the recycle water feature, (not doing a water change) the water coming back into the tank comes back pretty hard and clouds everything up. Doing water changes to/from my 5gal bucket is a game changer though! Again, a little too powerful for shooting water back into the tank. So what I did is attached the recycle water outlet to the black refill hose, with the filters still inside. I don’t think they intended it for this, but it really helps soften the blow and not disturb my substrate! See picture. For my turtle tank. I have larger rocks, easy to clean. Again, the recycling vacuum is a little overpowering and clouds up the tank though. Just like my other tank, being as tall as it is, I would think I wouldn’t have much of an issue. I did shorten it a little to get it closer to the water top, but didn’t help much. The filters also can get clogged with turtle sludge pretty quick. While it creates a few extra steps in cleaning out those parts, still does a great job and faster than my syphon hose vac. Refilling is also a breeze. I don’t use my softening method as the bottom has 2in River rock and doesn’t fall apart like stratum4/5 stars mainly because the lack of power control. I don’t think it’s that good for the recycle vac option, but for the price and functionality of its other features it’s great! I love mine and all my other hygger products. Best bang for your buck!

So great for little tanks!
I love that this is a gravel vac that only needs a few inches of water so I can get ALL the gunk from my nano tanks. The MAJOR flaw for me is not having a shut off on the handle. Not only that, but the switch is waaay back on the cord. Its not great. It hasn't happened yet, but it's a matter of time before the very strong suction grabs a plant, or a baby fish and there will be nothing I can do to stop it. It does come with at least one really helpful guard, but baby skrimps and baby Nanos will go right through. Still, 5 stars for being a lifesaver and saving me a lot of work!

Works, but not for large scale clean up
It can be a bit challenging to get the unit to begin suction. You have to sort of finesse the angle of your dispensing tube in conjunction with your sink to get the suction activated. Once it is pumping however, it works somewhat well for sand/gravel cleaning. The motor is significantly less powerful than i anticipated and does not do well in suctioning larger debris such as decomposing vegetation. If you’re trying to get deep into thick substrate, it struggles a bit as well maintaining suction power. The kit itself comes with a nice multitude of attachments which allow access to hard to reach places/the ability to clean varying types of granular substrates which is something unique to other models I’ve owned. The handle comes with extensions, which allows you to customize the length of it if you have a deeper tank. The cord is relatively short, so you will need an open outlet that is close - within 4 feet of the tank itself, or an extension cord. The largest perk of this style cleaner is it’s environmental impact. Sure you use a little electricity, but when comparing its use to conventional sink/vacuum style gravel cleaners, you save a considerable amount of water by having an electric pump. Overall, I would consider this a decent product for the price, but feel it is underpowered for those with larger grain substrates/heavily planted tanks.
