A Ravishing Legacy for the Ages and a Blessing for All Mankind!
Here at last is the definitive Ravi Shankar Collection - ten discs covering 40 years of the master's recordings for EMI. This set includes collaborations with such luminaries as Ali Akbar Khan, Yehudi Menuhin, Jean-Pierre Rampal, and a host of other musicians both east and west.Besides the ten discs, there is a 27 page booklet (English, German, French) and exclusive access to a website with additional audio and video content. If you are familiar with Ravi Shankar, there is little I can say beyond the fact that the discs are exquisitely mastered, generously full, and contain a tremendous wealth of performances from an incomparable career. And If you have not yet heard the music of Ravi Shankar - one of the greatest improvisational musicians of this, or any other age - this is your opportunity to enter into a musical experience that goes beyond hearing, beyond words, resonating deep into the depths of the infinite soul.Need I mention that the offering of this superb box set for less than $4.00 per disc is a fantastic deal?Hopefully this wonderful collection will stay in publication for years to come, for subsequent generations to enjoy.Just in case it doesn't, I recommend you buy it right away! Before some marketing exec realizes they should be charging a whole lot more for this wonderful collection of masterpieces!Disc 11. Raga Bhupal Todi - Tala Ardha JaitalIs That All There Is?This collection contains 11 hours of music on ten discs. That's a great start, but hardly all there is. Born in 1920 and recording since the era of 78rpm records, Shankar's first two LP's were released in 1957. The Ravi Shankar discography on Wikipedia currently lists 56 albums, along with 17 films including Satyajit Ray's Pather Panchali, one of the greatest films ever made. What's Next?If you are looking for more Ravi Shankar beyond this collection, I recommend another 10-CD boxed set, "Ravi Shankar - A Journey Through his Music" also listed on Amazon, which includes a larger format 39 page booket in English and German. Another excellent collection that does not duplicate content in the other two boxes is "Ravi Shankar - The Master", a 3-disc set published by Deutsche Grammophon. At 92, Shankar is still giving concerts, but issues with his health have caused many cancellations.

A surprising mix - WONDERFUL
There is popular India vocal music like Madame Subalakshmi, seldom heard by people who know sitar. There is a little Japanese Kyoto that I like very much. There are tons of straight forward traditional raga, with Lap portions that will take your mind to heaven. I don't like some of the mixes of western symphonic with sitar, but that may be my character flaw. Ravi's daughter Anouska currently does a lot of music that is that kind of mix which is wonderful. (Anouska's not on this compilation) If you know & very much like Ravi Skankar, you'll be very happy you bought this product. Namaste.

Excellent collection!
If you frequently jones for sitar and Indian music, this is your set. The addition of orchestral, violin and flute back-up add to the depth of the spritual tones of the sitar. Music to paint by, meditate, do menial tasks, make love, what have you... agreat collection

added to my collection of Ravi Shankar
I now have all, I think of the music of Mr. Shankar. I fell in love with Indian music when I first heard Shankar in the 60's and have a definitive collection of singing and instrumental music of India
