60 Beautiful line drawings of art masterpieces – printed one side of the page
The media could not be loaded. This is a wonderful coloring book – large with 60 designs which are based on a wide variety of art masterpieces. There is a wide range of artists with each design listing the artist, the name of the painting, and the date it was painted (bottom of the page.)The designs are listed in alphabetical order according to the name of the artist with Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema's “A Coign of Vantage” 1895 first and Grant Wood's “American Gothic” 1930 being last.At the back of the book, there is an alphabetical listing of the artists and interesting information about each of them.The rendering of the designs by Marty Noble is beautifully done. Most of the designs are detailed while only a few of them have intricate and small areas to color. What I really appreciate about Ms. Noble is that she generally leaves plenty of room for shading and highlighting if you choose to try those.This is what I saw while coloring in this book and testing the paper with my coloring medium.60 designs derived from Masterpiece artworks – line drawings by Marty NobleThe designs are printed one side of the pagePaper is the usual Creative Haven quality: white, medium weight, slightly rough and has perforated pages.Glue Binding but with perforated pages so removing a page is fairly simple.The designs stop well before the perforationsThumbnail prints of the original 60 art works are on the inside flap of the covers and the back of the book.Alcohol-based markers bleed through this paperWater-based markers bleed through in spots and show colorful shadows on the back of the pageGel pens and India ink pens leave shadows of color on the back of the page. India ink pens can bleed through when I apply more than one layer of ink.Coloring pencils work well with this paper. I was able to get good color, layer the same color and multiple colors and blend easily using a pencil style blender. I tested both oil and wax-based pencils with similar results. Hard lead pencils, like Verithins, leave dents on the back of the page.I suggest either removing pages from the book to color or using a blotter page under your working page. I like card stock as it keeps ink from seeping through and damaging the pages below.

Great coloring book of art masterpieces
This "Art Masterpieces to Color" coloring book features 60 paintings by well-known artists such as “Mona Lisa” by Leonardo da Vinci, “The Scream” by Edvard Munch, “Persistence of Memory” by Salivador Dali, and “American Gothic” by Grant Wood. The “paintings” may be done in whatever colors you like. Should you wish to make them look like the originals, the colored works are featured on the inside of the front and back covers. Unlike many coloring books, the pages are one-sided, allowing you to use markers if you so choose. (You would probably want to place a couple of pieces of paper under the page you are coloring, however, to protect the next coloring page.) There are notes on the various artists and paintings in the back of the book. This is a great coloring book to expose young ones (or those young-at-heart) to many of the art masterpieces from various centuries. While I am glad the pages are single-sided, it would be nice if there were perforations so you easily remove pages from the book if desired.

Great inspiration for drawing
Wanted to reproduce master piece and it was exactly what I wanted :)Use a light table to color on a blank paper. Could be greater if the paintings' picture was bigger

PHENOMENAL BOOK TO COLOR.....5+++ STARS!!!
One of my favorite coloring books ever! You are able to color famous masterpieces by Munch, Bottecelli, Chagall, Cezanne, Dali, Degas, Ganguin, Van Gogh, Goya, Kahlo, da Vinci, Klimt,Matisse, Monet, Raphael, etc just to name a few, you have drawings (though, Noble's rendering) of all of these famous paintings!! The great thing about this publication is that it is done only on ONE SIDE of the page which is rare for a DOVER PUBLICATION). Put another piece of paper in between the pages in case of bleed through, but you can use any medium...I use all my colored pencils (Crayola, Marco Raffine, and Prismacolor), markers (Crayola, Stabilo, Staedtler) & gel pens (Glitter, Metallics, Neon) on them....The paper is thick, the kind that DOVER uses on all its coloring books...Worth every penny and would make an awesome gift for a coloring book enthusiast!!! A TOTAL MUST BUY!!!

great buy!
I love this coloring book! I am an elementary school art teacher and I am a big fan of dover coloring books, I like to give pages to my students to color when they finish projects early. I especially like coloring books featuring famous artworks, I use them to supplement lessons about various artists.This is the king of all art masterpiece coloring books. I knew it would be 60 works, but when I received it I was still amazed at just how many artworks it featured! And such a wide variety of different artists and artworks, too. There are a few pages I will probably never use because of nudity (elementary-aged kids just do not handle such images very well), but there are so many pictures it doesn't matter.I will use this coloring book very often. It was a great value, and more than worth it. The pages are very well done, accurate and detailed! I wish I bought it years ago!

So many artists and styles! Educational as well as fun!
I'm so happy to get this! It has so many different styles of painting and so many different artists. If you want to color it as the artist did (personally, I think that is boring, but whatever milks your gurnsey), they offer pictures--though they are rather small. No matter--as these are famous works, you can probably find and print a copy online. They give a brief biography of the artists in the back. They give the picture name and the artist that did it. I look forward to learning a bit about the artists as well as relaxing with the coloring.Of course, me personally, I'm not going to paint it like the artist. Mona Lisa is going to have pink skin with purple tribal tattoos and green hair. ;)
