Fast, Effective (seriously) Do your heels a favor !!!!
I had purchased the battery run version of this and used it from time to time. But when i used it I would use it after using and callous scrubber and a scraper, then a smaller scraper and yes, really, sandpaper !The battery version of this was mainly to smooth the skin after all other efforts were done. This was all time consuming and annoying to say the least. The battery version was "ok" for smoothing and frankly if you had bad heels etc. it would work but I would work for a long time, usually giving up and doing more later that day and it did not really do much. So, thanks to the wonderful folks who answered my questions I decided to give this a try. it came today. Turned it on (about a 6 ft. cord) and proceed to work on my heels. Wow, I fell in love with this thing. The battery version would slow down and even stop if pressure was put on it. And yes, I know you don't want to put too much pressure because you don't want to take skin off, but heck, you need to put "some" pressure if you have callus' or bad heels. For those that want just touching up then the battery version will work. For us with serious problems ... well.. we need this thing!! I stopped after a bit because I did not want to take off too much until I got the hang of this Emjoi but will go back this evening to do more. And I think one more go round will pretty much take care of my heel problem. Not sure how often I will have to do it. That will come with time. But this is so much more easier than anything else I have used (sandpaper included) and loads faster. This is honestly well worth the money. Oh yes, I think it is actually quieter than the battery version too. I might keep the battery version to take on trips though in case touch ups needed But to be honest this Power Emjoi just flat out does the job for me.OH, also, don't always go in the same direction. Changing direction will ensure you are getting a really all around smooth surface. And, don't hold the pedi in the same place too long of course, Besides getting an uneven filing down area you might wind up taking off too much skin in one place. So move it around !Update: 6/11 Because of the condition of my heels I found I had to use the Emjoi Power about 2 times a day for the last few days. I determined rather than try and undue everything in one go (that would have taken quite some time) By doing some every day I made sure I wasn't taking off too much skin etc. Bottom line my heels were bad enough that doing it in just one time would not have really worked well. So, do some everyday and in a few days you'll be happy. Woke up this morning and rubbed my heels (don't laugh) because previously the jaggedness of my heels would scratch my other leg, get caught in my nightgown etc. Yep not nice. This morning.. my heels are "smoooooooth" ! Just don't rush it, little bit a few times a day until your heels get where you want them. From there as I said I'll see how often I have to touch them up.

My second purchase - this unit works great!
This is the second of these units I've bought. I was very pleased with the first one, and they've improved it since then.(The only issue I had with the original unit was a miniscule spring on the post that holds the roller. The spring wasn't secured to anything, and I eventually lost it when cleaning the unit after use. The manufacturer had now adjusted the design so the spring is secured to the post and can't be lost - excellent!)My feet are callused and quickly get visible dry skin, which looks terrible. If I pumice them, I have to do it twice a week even when it's not sandal season, because the dry skin snags stockings and bed sheets. This unit is so much easier than soaking and pumicing! It's also improved the calluses with continued use over time.I've never tried the battery version but I'm glad I got the corded one - I was worried it would be too powerful and cause bleeding, but no problem with that. Just follow the directions and until you get used to it, gently touch it to the callus for a few seconds at a time. Also, make sure your feet are dry with no recent lotion application, or the abrasive roller won't work as well.It does generate skin dust, so I did it over a (dry) bathtub. The rollers last quite a while; I usually get at least 5-6 uses (both feet) out of one roller. I use the Extra Coarse ones, and sometimes a finer grit for my toes, as the skin there is thinner than on the heel. You can clean it with an old toothbrush or slightly damp Q-tip, but what works even better is one of those spray cans of pressurized air, the kind used to blow dust off computer keyboards. The pressurized air can be used to clean the roller too. This unit is a big time-saver; each session takes me about 10-15 minutes for both feet. I usually do it twice a week. I'm so glad to be done with the 30-45-minute soaking and pumicing! If you're considering one of these units, buy it - you won't be disappointed!

WORKS WELL, BUT PRICEY!
I would have rated this product 3.5 had that been possible. My main gripes have to do with price. Gillette made its fortune selling razor blades, and they sold a gazillion blades my selling their razors dirt cheap. Emjoi have adopted that model, with a twist. The twist is that they charge a big fat price for their callus remover AND also charge more than enough for their 'blades.'The system is simplicity itself. A piece of sandpaper, or equivalent, is wrapped around a 2-inch long cylinder made of wood (I think). This is the refill. When the device is turned on, the sandpaper-covered cylinder spins, and when held against hard skin on the heels, for example, white powder which seconds before had been skin, flies from the foot.I decided that the battery operated model was almost certainly a bad choice because small devices with motors tend to eat batteries, and performance would decline as the batteries declined. Therefore I bought the AC model which cost just under $50.My first impression was of something that cost a lot less, maybe $25. It is well designed, very comfortable to hold and to use, and it works well enough with the relatively gentle 'sandpaper' refills that came with it it. I just ordered coarser refills in the belief that they will work better on my very hard skin. The refills, which do not last very long, cost about $3 each in packets of 4, and slightly less in packs of 6, 8 and 12. If you have hard skin on your feet and have had enough of filing it by hand, try this.

The competition does not compare
I bought the original battery powered unit and loved it from the first time I used it. Not sure how the competitor was able to gain market share - got one as a gift and tried for comparison and it was garbage! Now I can get a corded unit, no more batteries and will gladly order refills for this as long as they are Emjoi brand and not a knockoff. This product can be used safely every day or can perform with once per week usage. Gentle and easy to use!

Does it's Job
Based on the claims I expected it to be a little more powerful, however it works, just takes longer on callused areas.

Bye-bye callouses!
I had previously owned 2 of these but the battery operated versions. I LOVED my 1st one, but the battery cover broke so I bought another - same thing. I taped the cover on and used regardless because it was so effective. After taping and re-taping after multiple battery changes and a couple of years of use, I checked Amazon and found THIS version that doesn’t require batteries - plug and go! I get my feet smoother at home than I do paying any manicurist at a salon. Highly recommend this product and would definitely purchase again.
