BRNO baLens BAL72 72mm White Balance Snap-on Lens Cap with Neutral and Warm Domes

I've had this for about a year and had good results using it indoors with a Nikon D90 and 18-200mm Nikon VRII lens. It seems to work equally fine by either aiming it at the chief light source, or aiming it at the subject. Yields significantly more predictable results than the auto setting. I've had no fitment issues and don't know what JJ is talking about; perhaps it works better with some lens than others. As for overall build quality, I think it's pretty good, especially at $45 (though the price has risen tremendously since I bought it). I could imagine a slightly better feeling plastic, however.I haven't tried it with the warm dome so can't comment on that.

I have picked up a number of these in various sizes for my favorite lenses since they are so useful. Getting a good custom WB setting is painless using these. Simply point at your subject and set the WB. I know that there may be a concern of setting WB based on reflected light vs incident light, but I find that this does a good job and is superior to auto-WB in difficult situations. And, as I said before, it is dead simple, doesn't require carrying around a gray card and you always have this with you since it is your lens cap.

I reviewed this product before. The 58mm is just perfect, but the 72mm fits loose and I think it's going to fall off and get lost. I guess that one of these days I will try to fix the fit if I can. Other than the fit the product is great. Too bad about the fit.

These are great for setting custom white balances. I have every size they make and hope they make one in 105 mm someday. Quality is excellent.

This gets the white ballance right every time and takes a lot of the guess work out of those odd lighting situations. Or you could shoot RAW and worry about that later.
