As always Haynes manuels are very good

Used to learn to maintain my Vespa

I was a sixties teen, by 17 I needed wheels. My father at the time bought a scooter called a Capri that needed refurbishment. Vespa and Lambretta were out of our budget. But through father he taught me about engines, wheels, and most important safety first. After a while I managed to get a Lammie LI150.on HP. God it was awful, never started in the mornings always late for work. Gear cables and rusty stand plus worn kick-start splines. After hearing that Vespas were dangerous and unbalanced, I wasn't sure, until my WHS manager let me run his Vespa sportique down a railway platform. I finally got the same one, and it was brilliant. Started every morning, breakdowns were rare, but loved the ride. I owned it two years, before getting my dream the SS 180. I Did a lot of work on it and even changed the piston rings, embellished with chrome front bars, fog lights, a sporty amber windshield, a new pillion, etc. I found two strokes quite easy to understand, great fun running between my home town and Brighton. It was some time before I bought a helmet. Anyway I became a mechanic in early seventies, so Haynes books I began to collect. I know they were brilliant. Anybody lucky enough to own a classic scooter, this book is a must have. I may just get this for nostalgia sake.!!!
