Love it!
Better than I had expected for such a low price. All information is straight forward to get it up and running. I had purchased my own DVR hard drive and installed it, went to format and clicked - done! Up and working in a very short time.

This DVR is horrible!
I recently got the 4 channel CIB DVR and wanted to upgrade to an 8 channel DVR. The ZMODO was lower price so I thought I would give it a try. Connecting the cameras was pretty straight forward but everything else afterwards was a mess. The configuration menu is horrible. You actually need the remote control to set the IP of the DVR. The password for admin and user don't work. Resetting it also doesn't work. The client software doesn't look like you can manage the DVR from a computer. I've setup quite a few surveillance DVRs and this is by far the most frustrating. What a piece of junk. Just pay for the CIB DVR and save yourself a lot of headaches.

Pay attention to which hard drive you pick.
Hard Drive Requirements:SATA II or SATA III interfaceStorage capacity of at least 250GB and no more than 2TB. See our Storage Calculator to determine exactly how much you need.Choose a hard drive with a physical size of 3.5". It may also be reffered to as a desktop sized hard drive.Choose a hard drive that spins at 5400RPMS, or "Intellipower" because these hard drives use less power and also produce less heat.Choose a hard drive that is rated as industrial/surveillance grade because a standard, PC grade hard drive will fail quickly in a DVR system.Use a hard drive with 16MB of cache or more. There are three hard drives that meet all of the requirements and recommendations and they are the Western Digital AV-GP line of hard drives and the Seagate Pipeline line of hard drives. There is also a newer hard drive that Western Digital manufactures solely for DVRs. This is the Western Digital Purple series.Warnings:Stay away from using Western Digital Caviar Black or the Western Digital Caviar Blue hard drives. They have higher power requirements and create much more heat.Do not use a Solid State drive (SSD) in the DVR. The constant writing of the drive will wear the drive out much faster than a traditional hard drive.Do not use an external hard drive that hooks up through USB. The USB interface does not allow live recording.http://kb.zmodo.com/index.php?action=artikel&cat=1&id=3&artlang=en

Good image quality, but lasted only one year.
Last year I bought this DVR with 8 Cams and 500Gb HD. It is a very good product, quality images, internet view. But after 1 year it stopped working. I just bought another one but I hope this time i have a more durable product.

Great VCR
The quality of this brand is really improving!Place a HD of 1TB, then connect the camera and the monitor VGA and ... voila! working allRemote access was instant, following the instruction manual (1 single page ... more than enough), scanning the OCR code located outside of the unit my cell, everything is setting up instantly. The new application Zsight is more efficient than the previous Zviewer (I think the images go through his server ... I hope they do not switch off in the future)I rate with 4 stars instead of 5 because the menu that was floating before, is now located at the bottom of the screen and is hidden on my TV. I can only access it intuitivelyIn short, an efficient product with a low price.

JUNK!
Sorry but this item is absolute junk! The UI is terrible. The unit came without housing screws? the software mini disc is a combination of RAR files and other files? so to open or save them is just stupid? its a very easy setup for the cameras and the hard drive. However when you get to the Network setup It is just plain horrendous! After just a few minutes I realized just how crappy this product was and boxed it back up to return! I am just going back to my Winbook DVR STAY AWAY FROM ZMODO! This is a terrible excuse for a security DVR!
