I recommend this absolutely essential kit of tools for hip replacement patients.
After examining the available options as best I could given the paucity of details in the descriptions, I chose to order this set ahead of my hip replacement surgery date. It turned out to have been a good choice. Two weeks now past my replacement, I can say unequivocally that 1. you will need a set of these tools before you leave the hospital, and 2. this set would be an excellent choice. In general, the quality of these tools is excellent. The finish is good, pieces all fit together, and everything is smooth. The reacher is sturdy, being made of a single piece of metal channel with all of the moving components mounted full-width inside the channel. This means there is no room for the wobble and slop that would otherwise limit its function. The channel is further stiffened along its length by a hard plastic insert. I found it dexterous enough to grab even small objects, and strong enough to grip a pair of pants or a shoe. I especially appreciated the extra length of this reacher. Don't neglect to acquire a set with the dressing tool or hook. I found this to be a versatile and essential tool for dressing. The OT in the hospital was initially at a bit of a loss when I showed her this, but in a few minutes we figured out several important uses for it. For example, that downward pointing hook is THE tool for removing your own socks. Experiment with it. The sock helper (white tube with strings) is practical and usable -- it really does work. Being rigid, it will stretch your socks to their limit, however, so you may not want to subject your best or favorite socks to this. But, being rigid, it means that it enables you to slip your socks up over your feet easily and securely the first time. It is as large as it is to provide the space needed to get the entire sock up over your foot before engaging it to pull it away, leaving the sock in place. The sponge bather is adequate. The sponge is soft and absorbent, so it takes in plenty of soap. The handle is perhaps a bit too flexible and springy, so you will be spreading soap gently around your skin rather than scrubbing vigorously. I could live with that for a few weeks until I can reach that foot again. The show horn is sturdy and practical -- very usable.

Great items to have before and after surgery
This kit had everything I needed for use during my recovery. It would be helpful to have a page of instructions as to what all you can use each item for. I went on the internet to see if I could find something that would tell me what they are designed to do. I love the" sock helper" and wish I had this before the surgery. I can put my clothing on with ease with the "Grabber" and discovered that it even has a magnet on the bottom of the stick. I am a seamstress so I take it with me when I am sewing, it helps me pick up dropped items and straight pins. The handle for getting clothing off the closet rods keeps me from having to climb a step stool. The long handle shoe horn helps me put on my tennis shoes and shoes with heels so I do not have to bend. I was not sure what the elastic ties were for but I used them on the handles so I could hang the long handled items. Having the picture of the toilet seat was a little misleading even though it clearly states "without" toilet seat.

If you're going to be a hippie you need this
If you're going to be a hippie you need this! If you're in the process of getting a hip replacement then you can't live without the kit. It really includes everything that you're going to need and is essential for not breaking the surgical protocols. Two things it in here that I think are really essential are: the grabber (so you don't have to bend) and the sock tube. In fact I think that everybody should have these two things in their home even if they're not having hip surgery. The sponge is OK and something I didn't use much. I also didn't have a lot of used for the shoe horn however that might be different for somebody else. Wishing you a speedy recovery !

Check your local medical supply store.
I found this kit to be slightly substandard after having a chance (after my THI) to look at medical supply stores. The shoe horn is ok, but not really good. The shoe laces are way to short for adult shoes. The clothes "hook" is made of substandard dowel and was warped and poorly sanded. The best part of the kit is the sock assist tube. That works really well.

Glad I bought this even though I didn't need it ...
Glad I bought this even though I didn't need it for long after knee replacement surgery--it gave me some independence. Most useful: long handled shoe horn. I'll probably keep this around even when I pack up the rest. Also dressing stick (the wooden handle with the odd shaped rubber-coated wire on one end)--this is really handy for putting on/taking off elastic waistband pants. I also pushed soft/short socks off my foot with it. It takes awhile to get the hang of it, but it can be very helpful. The reacher is also good. Just when I got settled in a chair or bed and everybody walked away, I would think of something I needed that was just out of reach. It doesn't work for heavy stuff, but I did pick up a medium sized paperback with it. The sock aid (white with blue handles) should work but I could not use it to put on my compression/TEDS stockings (required post-surgical wear). If you want to use this, take it to the hospital and INSIST that the nursing/therapy staff show you how to use it. The rest I didn't need but probably would come in handy. Overall, this is a good value for the money.

I received this kit and I am amazed at how helpful the products are
I received this kit and I am amazed at how helpful the products are. I ordered this kit on the advice of my occupational therapist. It has exactly the items I need and a couple of things I didn't even know exists. This kit is super helpful, and I am delighted with it.I received the package along with a recumbent bike. The two packages were about the same (very large) size. I concluded that the recumbent bike came in two packages, and I discovered the kit when I started to assemble the bike. Unfortunately, I reported to Amazon that they package was not delivered. My apologies to Amazon, Medical Solutions, and UPS for my error, and kudos to everyone who helped get it all straight.
