Yard Hydrant Parts kit.. Works well.
I have been using Simmons hydrants for 30 years. I have owned 5 of them. Three I had outside at one farm tofill water pails & water troughs in pastures with run-in barns. (I had the hydrants installed outside the fence so the horses couldn't play with them or get hurt running into them.....then attached a short hose. A plumber figured out a way to attach the pipes so I could get hot water from hot water heaters in other barns. Turning round knobs on the wall in a heated tack room in a main barn, I could mix the hot & cold water so the horses got warm water to drink in winter out of one hydrant in each pasture run-in barn. ) Only one of the 3 hydrants ever leaked and needed replacement parts once in about 15 years. Now, at another farm, I installed Simmons hydrants 10 years ago. I have 2 that are inside my horse barn at a regular utility sink. Two water lines from my house. One for hot. One for cold. They have leaked 3 times in 10 years. Hot leaks first, then the cold follows soon after. These are used a lot daily .... Filling 6 water buckets 3 or 4 times a day. Washing them daily. Plus I wash other things ....feed buckets , my car, the pressure washer for cleaning outside buildings, watering newly seeded pasture with lawn sprinkler. I have used these parts kits 3 times. The parts wear out from being turned on and off alot. I used them like faucets. I had the new parts put on by people who had never done it before. I worry about that one part mentioned in the directions that can drop off easily if you are not careful. When that happens , you have to dig up the whole element. Expensive I'm sure, if paying for the work. That has not happened to me. Perhaps because I lecture the workmen previously and/or ring up Simmons and have them lecture the workers. ...which they do happly. You will probably never use all the parts in the kit. Youcan buy the parts a la carte. However, it costs the same so you might as well just buy the whole kit & store theextra parts for the same money. And you may decide to replace a part that isn't worn out completely since you have the parts on hand. These parts kits work well. I have called Simmons to check about installation of the parts. They were always very happy to help.

brass cam is easy to strip the bolt hole
Kit was ok, but some lessons learned1. the stopper was jammed in the seat. Not sure why. I had to dig the whole hydrant out, remove the seating part and pound out the stopper.2. getting the rod through the new O rings took some persuasion with a hammer (and block of wood). the rings were lubricated as well.3. reassembly was ok until i tried to adjust the position of the rod to the handle. i stripped the bolt hole in the brass cam. seems like the cam should be steel.what do i know. i reused the old part.4. i find it hard to find the sweet spot for the adjustment for lock position. seems to be right but the lock position leaks if it isn't just right. maybe my hydrant is old and worn.overall the repair was annoyingly difficult.hopefully it will be good for a long time

Please read before rebuilding Simmons Hydrant
Howdy Amazonians,I read some reviews who said it didn't work or fit, so I came across the same problem and I wanted to share the results. My hydrants just say Simmons, I think one has HB-2 on it. But anyways this kit works.I couldn't get the plunger to seat, if you look at my photo, if you pull out the old stem and the plunger looks like my pic, you have to dig up the hydrant and pull out the old broken plunger that is stuck in the hydrant. I pulled out the stem and I turned the valve back on hoping the water would blow it out, no go. So I thought maybe I could use a hook tool and pull it out the bottom opposed to unscrewing the rusted foot. Also notice with the stem pulled out the hydrant body held water, the old broken plunger clogged up the weep hole at the foot of the hydrant. So the hook tool worked and you can see the old plunger. I have 5 old hydrants I replace with new ones because I didn't know about the rebuild kit, as for me I only needed the plunger just the $11.00 part. Everything else was fine and the hydrant is 20 years old.If you need more help, [email protected].

Simmons Mfg. 850SB Yard Hydrant Parts Kit
I've had the worst luck with these yard hydrants and I wish they were never made because mine always break and you have to replace them. This kit will fix your issues maybe??? The reason I say maybe is because it says that you don't have to pull the hydrant out of the ground to fix it but that is not true. Depending on your problem, you might still have to dig it up to fix it. The plunger on ours broke at the end of the rod and was stuck in the valve at the bottom of the rod and the only way to get it out was to dig it up and take it apart. The instructions say that you can just pull the rod up and the plunger will come out but that doesn't always work if you have a problem like I had. We always have ours in concrete too so the cows don't move them rubbing up against them so it makes it harder also to fix. Also, I bought this kit before knowing that you could just buy the plunger for around $10-11 with shipping included, part number 8842, will save you some money but you only get the plunger. If that is all you need then get that, but if you need more, this kit is for you. The only thing I wish this kit came with was a new brass rod that the lock nut screws to since ours is all boogered up from adjusting it so many times when trying to get the hydrant to work before figuring out that the plunger was the problem!

Simmons repair kit
My pump handle had Simmons embossed on it. Thanks to information in a prior review I was fairly confident this was the kit I needed. I attached pictures of the parts I replaced (approximately 20 years of usage) and the replacement parts box which specifies which pumps this kit is for.
