Design Toscano Gods of Greek Mythology Complete Chess Set, 6 Inch, 16 Pieces and Board, Polyresin and Wood, Two Tone Stone

This set is beautiful! We love playing with it and it's a major center piece in my living room.The most surprising part about it. Ine day I walk in and I see my 75 lbs mastiff pitbull gnawing on a knight. I am devastated. I spent a pretty penny on this. I grab the piece out of his ginormous mouth and what, the piece is fine. I mean, the felt on the bottom is gone and there are a few scratches and some of the more intricate details are gone; but you can't see if unless you look for it. I sigh with relief and go to out the piece back on the board when I notice a rook is gone. Just gone. No where to be seen. I spend hours and hours (okay, maybe 20 min) looking for it and yep, dog must have eaten it. I start trying to figure out if I can just buy one piece when my husband walks in from outside with, you guess it, my Rook in his hands! The dog buried it with his other toys. After cleaning it up, again the felt was gone, but other than that, near perfect condition.These are some solid pieces

This is actually my second set. The first one I gave to my ex as a Christmas gift but when he was shown the door he took it with him. So I wanted to get another one for myself. It's stunning and definitely is a conversation piece when company comes over. The price of this set has definitely increased since I purchased the original one in 2013. I purchased it from Wayfair and I paid about $140. I was shocked to see the price doubled for the same set BUT I had to take the "L" because there is just NOTHING like the beauty, elegange and the enormous size of the pieces anywhere else online that I could find and I searched for weeks. I am in love with this set. I read another reviewer stating his dog was caught chewing on one of the pieces and therefore it was durable. I agree to a point. I remember with my original set, my cleaning lady dropped one of the pieces on the tile floor and it broke in half. But luckily it was a fairly clean break and nothing a little super glue couldn't repair. It wasn't perfect after gluing it back but it was barely noticeable. So all in all I would definitely recommend this set if you don't mind shelling out $300. Look at it as a part of your home decor that's truely usable 😁

For the anount of money, I expected better. Sure it's nice but the pieces are resin. From the pictures, I'd expect better material. The board is made from cheap wood. For the price, I expect nicer wood, hardwood even.The bigger pieces are fine but I find it hard to distinguish the king from the knight if you don't pay close attention. Staring at the back of their heads, all you see is their hair. At least the bishop is wearing headress to make them different.Oh, and yest, the pieces are tall and they block the pieces in front of them. Tall can be a good thing, but not when they're bunched up and you can't see all your pieces.The pawns fall over. Too easily. The base is small and they are top-heavy. I bought some 1.5" wood biscuits and felt and added them as bases.

The board is nothing special. It's just a standard chess board of good quality. The pieces themselves are beautiful. Detailed, and well made. They won't break too easily. My only complaint about how they are made is that the pawns are a little top heavy so a light bump and they will fall over. Not a big deal. The pieces do not come with a carrying case of any kind. You will not be able to transport them unless you get your own carrying case. Not a big deal if you plan on keeping them in one spot. Excellent chess set all in all.

the pieces are better than I thought! large board, and the pieces are very distinct so you know what piece you are grabbing! makes a great center piece for the dining room table, well you're going to need a larger table with this set

It is a beautiful chess set. And if you are not playing chess too much, it is a nice decoration. We regret buying this chess set. The pieces are not balanced very well. Also, due to the height of them it is very hard to see the game.

This is BEAUTIFUL. It fits right in with my chess set collection. I had not planned to spend this much, but now I am glad I did. I was happy that each piece has a felt bottom. The delivery container is sculptured to fit each piece, making future storage easy.

Terrible design. The pieces brake easily. Customer service did not allow me to buy new individual pieces. Top heavy. Poorly designed. Constantly braking. I love chess and was terribly disappointed at how easily these broke.
