fun, out of the ordinary game
I got this for my 7 year old who loves horses. When I started reading the directions, I was a little less enthused about it than I was before we opened the game because when glancing at the instructions it seemed pretty complicated. However, once I read through them (it really only took about 5 minutes), it was very clear and we got started. She LOVES this game. There are 3 different versions to play, so you get some variety in how you play instead of doing the same thing every time. She likes the pictures of the horses on the horse cards and she loves reading the information about them on the back of the cards.Reading the instructions gives a back story about the ranches and the horses, so reading it out loud with my daughter before we played was really enjoyable for her. It really is a very simple game to play once you read the rules and with the various ways to play it will be an enjoyable game for a long time. We've only played it with 2 players so far, but I bet it would be even funner with all 4 players - especially with a group of kids. Very glad I purchased this - plus it was very comparable to the prices of your typical board games.

My Favorite Horse Game as a Child
My mom got this game for me when I was about 10 I think. I loved it so much I would play it by myself! Both my mom and grandma are horse trainers, so I grew up around horses and read everything I could about them. Even as a very knowledgeable horse kid, I absolutely loved this game. The cards are beautifully illustrated (I was pretty snobby about my drawing and horse drawing skills as a kid, so this was very important to me). The cards are also extremely informational; a nice description of each breed's traits and history is written on the back. It's like one of those horse encyclopedias for kids in fun flash card format. I actually used to quiz myself with these... for fun! Yes, I'm a true horse lover/nerd, haha. When I wasn't playing with my mom, friends, or by myself, I would just read through all of the cards over and over again and make up my own games. When I got a little older, I even used the cards for a horsey book report/presentation I had to do in middle school. It was quite the hit.I'm not sure where my old game is, but writing this review reminds me of how much I loved it and honestly makes me want to go out and buy one (I'm 24 now, haha).I can't imagine any real horse kid not loving this game. It was by far my favorite Christmas present that year, and it held my interest for a long time.

Great family game for all ages
I had this game growing up and wanted my son to be able to play it. He is 6 and loved it! He is a beginner reader so I had to help him with some of the "action cards" due to they are more advanced reading on most, but he still had fun. There are two different versions you can play and both can work for young kids or adults. Basically one game you are playing for the Ranch, the other game you are playing for the "wild side". The cards are beautiful and I love all the horse information. Also, the game rules are simple yet the game does not get boring. The game is well-made, the cards are nice and thick, and the setup is simple. Game play is about 30 minutes for 2 players.

Good fun, a little complicated
I really liked this game. My kids really liked the pictures of the horses. We played it once, and I can't talk them into trying it again. Mostly, they just want to play with the horse cards. The rules were a little complicated to read, but once we got playing, they began to feel intuitive. As a teacher, I liked that there was a good amount of strategy learning involved.

As expected
As far as I know it was as expected, bought it for someone I was dating as it was a favorite game of hers as a kid. She broke up with me 2 days after I gave it to her and we never got a chance to play it.

Lots of Fun Herding Horses!
Our 9 year old received Herd Your Horses from Santa this Christmas and it has fast become one of her favorites. We liked that there are different perspectives from which to play and that the directions are easy to follow. We had a marathon game as Ranchers where we decided to play until we collected EVERY horse! We had a blast! We also liked all the information about each horse on the back of the cards. Only thing that would make it better is if there were real pictures of horses - that’s not to say that the pictures on there are not well done. I would recommend this game for anyone who loves horses and loves to learn about about them while having fun!
