Must have with a reciprocating saw
Very handy tool! I was going to try to make something similar to use with my reciprocating saw but thought I'd give Amazon a chance first. Glad I did, this was a super simple time-saver! I was using it in a crawl space to cut and shim pier posts under beam floors worked great with the assistance of a level - didn't have to crawl all the way out for every post to cut on a chip saw. Only recommendation would be to to make the angle iron guides out of something harder as the demo blade I on my saw had no problem cutting a channel into them on the side I couldn't see.

Price: I wish I had know about these when I was building fences...
Some of the most amazing ideas are also among the simplest. The VERY easy to use tool accessory is a must-have for fence/deck builders. Depending on the precision desired, the gap CAN be harrowed. Blades aren't too expensive, but bear in mind that making the gap narrow enough for the teeth to touch/snag on the frame will cause both wear on the blade, and the guide. Depending on the blade and application, this can also cause an occasional burr on the inside of the track. Now, with the cautions out of the way, the use is EXACTLY as depicted in the images and video on the ad page. The steel is pretty thick, and feels solid in the hand. The bolts and butterfly nuts are the same... The true beauty of this is that this is not a "set" 90 degree cut... in either direction, it can set at (nearly) 45 degrees on a standard 4x4 (3.5x3.5 inches) and, on some boards, a little steeper. If you're cutting narrower boards, the angle is even greater (again, in either/both directions). This is VERY handy to have, when the board you need to cut is already vertical, and can't be laid down, for cutting. With metal fenced, the only difference will be changing the blade on your reciprocal saw. Remember that you will need room between the edge of your board/post and the clamping bolts, on the outer edge. Thus, the available angle may be hindered by the width of your blade, for accommodating the initial cut. Another advantage that struck me as I was inspecting the use is that the extended guide can also reduce the "flapping" of the blade on full extension, adding to the life of the blade, and the straightness of the cut.Excellent concept, well executed. I'm not going to bother with a video, as the ad page video is concise and accurate. I'd rather not be redundant.Four star plus implementation (easily 4.5).

Works ok, but requires careful monitoring while in use
I was able to use this to get good cuts on some 4x4 posts. However, because a reciprocating saw vibrates a lot, the nuts/bolts on the plates tend to jiggle so hard that they loosen. This means the guide zone increases and you have to stop cutting, retighten the nuts, and continue. I was using a brand new wood blade when I did this. After a few cycles of this, I made it through, but it took more time than I was hoping. Obviously you can't tighten the nuts all the way or the blade won't fit. If they spent a little more time on the design, this would be perfect.

Another discarded tool for my junk bin...
I really wanted to like this. But from the moment I opened it, saw the lack of instructions, and had to figure out how to assemble it, my enthusiasm started to wear off. You can’t really cut a 45-degree angle unless you screw it into the wood (not explained, but it comes with screws). The nature of a reciprocating saw means that the vibration will take the paint off pretty quickly. And the set-up makes this a real pain unless you’re only cutting a few posts.I am back to my old method – cut the post the right length in the first place, using a chop saw for the angle if needed. Or use a circular saw and cut it from both sides. This “time saver” really doesn’t save any time or do a very good job

Great product
This is a great product to have for cutting fence posts tops! It takes a few minutes to adjust but when you get the hang of it it’s worth it!
