Alfonso Cuaron (yes, the director signed up for Harry Potter 3) has managed to create a sexy road movie without a single cheerleader popping up in anyone's bed. Instead he brings together a strong cast of Spanish/Mexican actors--including the rising star Gael García Bernal and the enigmatic Maribel Verdú--with a heady mixture of dusty roads and raging hormones. Leaving the poverty and grim reality of Amores Perros (the other hit Mexican movie of recent times, also starring Bernal) far behind, Y Tu Mama Tambien is set among the upper classes where two teenage friends, Julio and Tenoch, are left in a state of limbo when their girlfriends take a trip to Europe. But rather than resting on their laurels, they choose to chase a much bigger prize: Tenoch's cousin's wife, Luisa. When she takes up their offer to go on a trip to a mystical beach, the boys can't believe their luck; little do they know that Luisa is using them as a means to run away and forget. Here begins the boys' trip towards adulthood as they learn to control their hormones, jealousies and selfishness. Y Tu Mama Tambien's explicit scenes are more than mere titillation, just as the plot is more than a simple sex comedy. --Nikki Disney

Mexican Delight
Two Mexican lads travel, with an older woman, in an old estate car, to a beach that doesn't actually exist. Well, it doesn't sound much. In fact this film is by turns hilarious and moving; no surprise it has gained quite a following. The three main characters (all well played) are likeable and although the spoken language is Spanish (there are English subtitles), it doesn't really matter at all. Much of the attraction of the film is visual; it is beautifully photographed on location in Mexico. There are quite a number of explicit sex scenes, but these are entirely natural and part of the story. They are often amusing too.The presentation on DVD is outstanding. Picture quality is excellent with rich colours and a sharp image. Stereo sound (I don't have surround) is atmospheric and used well. There is an 11 minute short film by the director of the main item. It is amusing. There is also a version of the film for under 17's. This is very amusing, if a little short. There are music tracks, a making of documentary, and numerous other extras-all enjoyable. Also current copies have a short book detailing the early lives of our heroes.Good humour, sun, sea and lots of sex. The perfect DVD for dark Autumn nights.

Poetic!
loved this film, i think its sad the sexual content in films like these is usually put in the for front in england, the truth is people are missing out a truly amazing movie experience. the film follows three characters as they search for a imaginary beach on the way they all grow and learn things about themselves that ultimately leads to a bitter sweet conclusion. the setting, dialogue and story are great and i think most people can relate in someway. definitely worth a watch!

Y Tu Mama Tambien DVD
Quite touching in its own strange way due to the twist at the end, but otherwise almost like an American Pie-like Saturday night type of movie but in Spanish (y'know, dirty teenage boys and that). English subtitles (that actually made sense, unlike with some DVDs). Worth a watch, but not something I'd watch over and over again.

A film with a difference
Have watched this film twice since buying it and was really touched by the underlying storyline. It was SO refreshing to watch something that isn't a big blockbuster film but I think it should be !! The setting of Mexico and the photgraphy combined with the story line is one film you have to watch ! Its like discovering a little gold dust loved it :o)

Once is Enough!
I actually first saw this film several years ago and although good enough first time it didn't really warrant a second viewing.

Just Boys Growing Up but Great Fun
Julio & Tenoch are two teenagers in the infancy of the sexual experiences - they rut like bunnies but see themselves as sex Gods! The typical immaturity and silliness of young boys is there for all to see and so is their leaning towards dope, beer, and girls and of course sex - just like young Brit's abroad! The boys set off on a road trip with Luisa who is way ahead of them in maturity, but she is willing to be one of the gang, though she has her own reasons. She seduces both of them, but this is the first of many lessons, emotions and truths along the way for the boys? This is a fun movie with lovely scenery across Mexico and lots of scenes of a sexual nature. There is also a story here - the lessons of life, some are a bit humiliating, some great fun and some are sad? The film has English sub titles, this includes the commentary which introduces you to all of the characters which I found quite nice. A lot of the younger set will love this film I'm sure, but it's not a film to watch with your grandchildren, or if the vicar comes around for tea and biscuits!
