The BreakBeat Poets Vol. 2: Black Girl Magic Paperback – April 17, 2018

This book is a work of art, a manifesto, & in so many ways a reflection/choir. Reading many of the poems contained are therapeutic in ways akin to journaling & therapy. These poems affirm & rejoice & challenge & affirm some more. They give voice to so many relatable experiences. I loved it so much that I purchased a copy for my best friend too.

Released in 2018, this book is just what I was looking for--fresh voices. Bolstered by the whispers of more established writers, these poems wiggle, soar, spit, laugh and shout. BGM is fun, enlightening, affirming and power inducing. The intro by Patricia Smith is life. As I read, I kept saying "So true" or just "Unh huh" while nodding my head. Best Book Ever!

Everyone should get this to support not only PoC but to feel inspired by these stories. I gifted it to a friend and she was so excited to receive it! Super happy this is on Amazon but there still need more variety in Black Girl Magic/ Pro-Black products.

A thoughtful, emotional, evocative and powerful anthology of poems celebrating voices that are too often overlooked in poetry collections. A necessary addition to every classroom and poetry collection!

This was the most enjoyable book I have read in years. It fed my mind and my spirit and my imagination. I bought this copy for my friend as a Christmas gift, and I recommend that anyone else do the same.
