Cotton webbing is not damaged by a hot iron.
I use the cotton webbing for handles for tote bags. I donate these bags to a local church group for them to sell as money maker. As a finishing touch, I press the bags, usually made of cotton. I have accidentally ruined a couple of bags made with polyester webbing handles by touching them with the iron on the final press. The cotton webbing is durable and a bit more rustic looking than polyester.
