More warmth, less weight: the ultimate outdoor blanket!
I'm a bit of a traditionalist in that I love natural materials, and wool blankets. The drawback, of course, with your traditional wool blankets, is that the warmth to weight ratio isn't all that great. These alpaca blankets solve that problem, in my opinion! I bought the twin size, and it weighs in at just 3.5lbs versus my military surplus blanket, which weighs in at 4.5lbs. And I would venture to say that this blanket is at least 1.5x as warm as all of my military surplus blankets -- maybe more even, while being no bulkier and significantly lighter. I think if you wanted to make a winter bedroll system, you could get by quite happily with the queen size blanket even down to very low temps, with two layers folded over you (right over left), a good mattress underneath, and something like a milsurp poncho for a bivvy bag. I speculate that the twin size, used in conjunction with a poncho liner, can also get one down below freezing comfortably. This all provided one is dressed for the weather -- you don't strip down when sleeping in any wool blanket. I also found it to be rather water repellent despite the cotton content, and extremely soft to the touch. This may be too warm as an indoor blanket for most people with central heating, but is excellent in an unheated room or the outdoors. I haven't noticed significant shedding as many people have commented on.

Outstanding
In Peru in a small in the Andes mountains I bought a baby alpaca wool blanket and watched them make them. This blanket feels very similar and is definitely legit alpaca wool. It's not as soft as my baby alpaca blanket from Peru but it is softer than the merino wool counterfeit ones often found online sold as alpaca so it's probably fine alpaca wool. It's soft enough for the mrs and I to sleep with it next to our skin and feel cozy. Priced fairly from what I paid in Peru. They're made very well. Ours is very durable. Our dog paws at them when we're not looking to nest in it since it's so soft and he hasn't been able to loosen the weave and there are no runs in it. There was no smell often found with wool on arrival or after washing. Be advised it will shed but all wool sheds its just a part of it. I've bought two more of these since this one I love them so much. Another King and a travel size for taking to the park or lounging around on the couch or in hammocks in the back yard. It breathes and wicks moisture really well and keeps us warm in just about any temperature. We use it in the fall all the way to spring and even as it warms up it breathes and wicks so well that we don't get uncomfortable until it gets pretty warm. Wish they offered a lighter weight one we could use for the summer months. Would definitely recommend and buy again.

A Good-Quality Blanket That Keeps Me Warm (But Not Sweating)
I waited to review this blanket because I wanted to have it for a while first. Here are my thoughts: First, it looks really nice and is of good quality. Second, it is heavy. This is not a bad thing; actually, I like its weight. Third, other reviewers have complained that it sheds. Yes, mine did, too -- at first. Over time, perhaps 2-3 months, it shed less and less. After that, it didn't shed at all. So, if you're willing to endure a a few months of stray hairs -- I used a sticky roller on my sheet to remove them; it took all of 2-4 minutes each time that I made the bed -- then you can expect that it will eventually not shed anymore. Fourth, it is the heaviest, and warmest, blanket that I own. What I like about it is that it seems to know how warm it needs to keep me! On really cold nights, it keeps me warm. On warmer nights, but still cold, it keeps me warm (without my sweating under it). If the room is warm, then I will sweat under the blanket. In other words, the blanket is not designed for the summer, although, if you like keeping the a/c turned to a low temperature, then it can be used even then. Fifth, I like the natural fibers, and it's cool that I own something that came from an alpaca! In summary, I'm very happy with this blanket and am glad that I bought it. I use it frequently.

Warm and soft
It does shed a bit. When I wash my sheets there’s quite a bit of the wool fibers attached to them. That may subside over time but it was noticeable. Overall, I’m not that concerned about it.

Great wool blanket
When I was a kid I used to love visiting my grandfathers farm because I had the distinction of getting to sleep on his Army cot and covering up with his Army wool blanket. Those were fond memories and they immediately sprang to life when I received my Alpaca wool blanket. It's not very thick but it doesn't need to be. This is a seriously warm wool blanket that is nice and soft to the touch and not itchy the way some wool blankets can be. It's machine washable which will come in handy of you have dogs that like to sleep in your bed like I do. Use the cold water setting, and you can machine dry it too. I'm not a big fan of winter but this blanket makes it more than tolerable.

Wonderful Alpaca Blend Blanket
This is a quality blanket. It did not come with tags saying what the blend is, but I presume it is based on other reviewers notes and questions answered. (When it first arrived, it didn't appear to be in original packaging.) This blanket is lightweight but very warm. Feels better than my Pendletons. I did not have any issued with shedding. I put it in the dryer on no heat setting to grab any stray fibers. And there were none. It's a keeper.

Fabulously soft, warm and beautiful
I hesitated because I saw it was recycled hair but don’t let that put you off. It’s worth every penny. It’s extremely soft to the touch, not scratchy. Although it’s a throw size, I’m using it on the twin bed I sleep in as my main blanket. It covers adequately except a tad short to tuck in. I got blue and it’s a heavenly color, matching my duvet. It would be suitable for a throw as well, but it is very warm, not a light cover.
