HGST HTS725050B7E630 Travelstar 500GB 2.5 inch SATA Internal Hard Drive

What can I say? It works, it's fast and it's big. I bought it for my 13" Macbook Pro. I first created an Extended Journaled partition which took a couple of seconds. I then cloned my entire hard drive on to it using free SuperDuper. That took a little more than an hour but I was expecting that to take at least two. I then tested it by booting with the alt key. It worked fine so off came the back of the computer and I put it in. After startup apart from my computer being zippier everything was as I had left it. Brilliant! I'd had to upgrade after installing Mountain Lion. My computer had slowed so much I couldn't even type. I added more Ram then I looked at a SSHD, but when I saw this was 6 Gb/s the same as a SSHD and a LOT cheaper the decision was made.

Runs well in a Linux laptop, Acer AO-756. Obviously too early to tell about longevity. Much faster than my original 5400rpm drive. Running happily in the 36-41 degrees Celsius range. No complaints yet. Packaging was minimal but drive arrive on time and in perfect working condition. Have not run any benchmarks on it yet...

... use as a repository for Podcast time shifting.I have 259 podcasts that I download to replay later.I had been using SSD but ended up losing too many when the drive failed.So the move to HDD seems to be the answer, more reliable when in use 16hours a day.I have several 500GB HDD and all seem more responsive to my needs than an SSD of the same capacity.The other point with HDD is to make sure they can be spun down when not in use not all have that ability.

It did not cost the earth and allowed me to keep my PC running whilst my SSD is being replaced. The performance, as expected, is not as good as my SSD, but I can live with that.

Was on the verge of replacing My Acer 7739 laptop when took it ages to load websites, but was rather reluctant as it was less than two years old. When a friend's laptop worked fine on the same connection, I (no expert) figured it may be the hard drive & replaced it with the Hitachi Travelstar 500GB and see what happened. Since then the it's like a having a brand new laptop at a faction of the price, well pleased. Delivery was quick too. If you plan to do the same, remember to save your files (i used CD-Rs) from the old hard drive beforehand. Installing the hard drive (make sure it's the correct size) was quite straight forward, but you'll need tiny electrician's screwdrivers.

My old MacBook Pro was showing its age. The original hard drive was showing signs of slowing down, and it was a constant battle to maintain a decent amount of free space on the 160GB unit.The Travelstar was recommended by geeky friends. I attached the drive to my Mac by a USB adaptor, formatted it, and cloned the internal drive over. I then checked the Mac would boot from the Hitachi, and when satisfied everything worked, cracked open the laptop and installed the new drive. It took longer to make the cloned drive than to install. I'm happy, my ageing MacBook Pro is much happier, seems to be a tiny bit quicker and will last another couple of years before I need to replace it.Now, if I could find a way to double the 3GB maximum RAM limit...

I received one of these HGST 500gb HDD's yesterday and as soon as i plugged it into my PC to format it all i got was constant clicking/beeping and screeching from it.It wasn't in the best packaging to protect an HDD tbh so i am not at all surprised it arrived DOA.Returned for a refund.

Arrived rapidly, and works as advertised. Only thing that threw me was that the packaging and product ID makes no reference to Hitachi. The disk ID came up as 'Generic' when plugged in.Branding is HSGT.Was about to send it back as being mis-sold, but did a little googling, and it seems that all Hitachi drives are now sold as HSGT. We live and learn, but it would have helped me avoid panicking if the ad had made this clear.
