Bauerfeind - RhizoLoc - Thumb Stabilizer - Splint for Fast Relief from Painful Overuse, Restricts Thumb Joint Movement, Skier's Thumb Support, Adjustable & Comfortable

My thumb which was sprained having an incomplete ucl tear and major rupturing this brace feels very comfortable and supports my thumb enough so I can grip things without major pain. I was using a cheap brand which was working okay, I decided I'd give some others a try that were more compact. I found this one was by far the most comfortable and supportive, it is with the premium price to me. It's also very minimally extended down the wrist so I can wear my watch still, which is great because I use it to pay everywhere now since I actually damaged both thumbs and have a hard time getting anything out of my pockets.

Being of a certain age (ahem, shout out to all my GenXers), and having ignored all advice to slow my roll in my younger years, I have a drawer primarily dedicated to ankle, foot, wrist, and thumb related braces, KT tapes, etc. I have found Bauerfeind products to be consistently far superior to other OTC gear. They are usually 3X or more the prices of the more widely available retail brands, but they have not disappointed, and I have yet to retire or throw one out.Thoughts on this item:-I like the minimal construction of this brace, not covering most of my hand when all I need is some thumb support.-There is a rigid, molded internal support which provides legit immobilization over basic neoprene or other fabric braces.-I felt dumb, but I really didn't get the middle tab (aka Mystery Flap) function at first. Took my engineer husband to point out that pulling it taut would further limit CMC movement by increasing the angle the thumb stands out from the hand. Depending on how much mobility or lack thereof one is looking for, this may be meaningful.-The top strap hits right at/slightly above the first knuckle on me (female, smallish to average sized hands, Size 1), and is designed to wrap around the thumb pad, then secure vertically downward onto the blue fabric body of the brace. It works, but A) the strap height is quite tall, and the edges chafe around the creases on the underside of the thumb, so it's a bit uncomfortable. This can be mitigated by using the Mystery Flap to increase the angle, sliding the thumb into a more comfortable position relative to the strap. B) not having a dedicated receiving velcro pad is going to age the (expensive) blue material quickly, I imagine.-The lack of a middle strap, combined with the rigid stay does mean a bit of gapping between the thumb and the brace as the hand moves, but I think it's an okay trade off for not having a bunch of unnecessary material across the rest of the hand.-The blue is a fun color, I would choose it over black or (ugh!) the ubiquitous "Chronic Injury Beige", but I could see how something more low-key would be desired for the more aesthetically conservative but similarly broken folks out there.Not the most well designed Bauerfeind product I've had, but still much better than the majority of products in this space. IMO, worth it!

Prior to making purchases, I ALWAYS do my research. I have owned several Bauerfeind products and have NEVER been disappointed. Sure, it is pricier than other brands, but IT REALLY WORKS!!! Bauerfeind products are manufactured with quality materials and are ultra comfortable to wear. If you remove the velcro straps gently, I cannot see there being any pilling issues. I felt immediate relief and it totally immobilized my Trigger Thumb so the healing process can begin to take place. I could not be happier with this product. When wearing it, I hardly notice that I have it on. I do not feel restricted in any way. Whenever I have an injury-related problem and need any type of brace, I automatically go to the Bauerfeind brand and will continue to do so as they have really helped me in the past. Since I am allergic to latex, another big bonus was that this stabilizer is made from latex-free materials. If you choose to take a leap of faith and order this product, I honestly think that you will be glad that you did :)

Purchased for skier’s thumb. Cannot speak more highly of this. It is comfortable and stays cool, low profile (immobilizes the lower thumb joint but allows movement of the upper joint). Was skeptical because of the higher price but 100% worthwhile over the course of 2 months.Active/sports use: To continue playing sports, I would tape my thumb with KT tape (search taping skier’s thumb). When done, I would change to this brace. Have not played sports while wearing this, but generally speaking it would be possible when compared to other braces. This brace uniquely allows almost full wrist mobility.Sizing comment: runs a little larger. I would recommend going a size down if unsure.

Bauerfeind - RhizoLoc - Thumb Stabilizer - Splint works perfectly to relief pain, as my thumb heals from an injury. The product is extremely well made and allows my thumb to heal nicely, yet I am still able to carry with my work and activities. The product has no smell and wipes clean. I highly recommend the Bauerfeind - Rhizoloc - Thumb Stabilizer. It is definitely is the best on the market, and is comfortable sleeping with it on too. You do not even know it's on. Best of all my thumb is healing.
