Cool Truck, bigger than I expected it to be when built but a thoroughly challenging and enjoyable build !!
My first ever Lego Technic Build and i'm now HOOKED !!As per one of the other reviews i'll reiterate what was written in pros/consPros====Big when built (and currently got nowhere to store/display it)1862 pieces6 R/C FunctionsChallenging buildGood range to the IR remotePossibility of building a 2nd vehicle (via online PDF)Cons====Expensive - Retailing at £179.99 but managed to get an Amazon Deal before Xmas for £130Instructions could be clearer (all circa 400 pages of them) - I built with front diff wrong way round meaning it wouldn't drive as front wheels went in opposite directions to the x4 rear wheelsThe motors are a bit weakThe light bar over the windscreen needs some 'lights'! (or at least some clear lenses to like lights)Instructions to operate the functions could be a little clearer as that have to operate via trial and error. The 2nd vehicle instructions are ONLY onlineThis was the first Lego Technic I have ever built as per the other review and yes, I was a little nervous and worried that I wouldn't be able to follow it but I persevered and in total it took me about 3-4 days doing a few hours every day. Helped it was a Christmas Present and I was off work, and it was an excuse to do something other than sit in front of the TV every Christmas.I found the instructions fairly clear but I think that the directional arrows highlighting exactly where parts go could be improved a little by making them stand out more with bolder arrows.I'm struggling to write anything original here so i'm going to re-iterate that I had exacly the same issues in that colours, positions, magnification levels could all do with being improved, Often I found it difficult to tell the difference between a dark grey part and a black one for example, or exactly where a part should goWhen building, I started searching for parts in the bags set out across the table, day x2 i'd been to B&Q and bought a large toolbox and a few other boxes to separate the larger parts to the smaller ones and started color coding everything as leaving them in bags, I found I wasted far too much time looking for the right part and having no idea what bag that would be in. They could have benefited with numbering the bags but I guess once the 6x6 vehicle was built, the parts wouldn't be in the bags anymore if you chose to dismantle it and make the Research Explorer Vehicle (Instructions available online)Don't be shocked, this Truck when built is MASSIVE !! 2ft long by just over 1ft wide. The back doesn't have a bed on it, I think this could have benefited with one to finish it off aesthetically but I guess the designers were thinking of the "TECHNIC" side by exposing the gear mechanisms etc so you can see all the parts moving. As per "UK Couples" review, the light bar could have benefited with actual lights or something fake light like clear lenses etc.I still have to take it apart to fix the front diff as I put it in the wrong way round and am a little anxious that taking just that section apart, I wont get it back together without taking it ALL apart and starting from scratch but the OCD in me is bothering me that its not finished properly !Really looking forward to my next challenge. May get the Porsche GT3 or the Mack Truck next :)

It Lego at its technical best.
Ok got this for my 5 year old for Christmas, and obviously me and him to build it. (ME)He loves lego and so do i so a present for both of us without him knowing lol.Its a lot of money but that's lego, the design aspect though is amazing, so technical, i enjoyed every part of putting this thing together. But to be honest its way to slow, my boy does not get that much enjoyment out of it because of it, it need a faster motor to drive it, any little bump this cannot make.So it sits on the shelf just looking good.

Hugely enjoyable, big challenge in every way.
Let’s get straight to the point, this is is a seriously big model both in terms of the number of parts and the finished size.Don’t be daunted by the almost 1900 parts though as carefully following the instructions will result in a model that is genuinely in ‘shock and awe’ territory. Yes, you sometimes go wrong (or at least I did! ) and have to retrace a step but that is part of the fun and the challenge and even my teenage daughter found herself willingly sucked into it. Rather like a good book, you find it difficult to stop because you are enjoying it so much. The motors have to move what is a big and heavy truck so don’t expect to be racing this but the speed is still impressive. Satisfyingly, you can see some of the workings which are left exposed and there is a certain pride (and mild astonishment in our family’s case!) that we had built this monster. Next problem.....where to display it! Need a bigger house.....Easily recommended.

Very challenging but terrific sense of achievement on completion.
I bought this as present for elderly person to pass the time during the dark winter days. It was a huge success. Huge sense of achievement during (all visitors were shown the model during it's construction) and on completion. Couple of tips however.....none of the bags are numbered and some of the components are very, very small. Get a number of takeaway size containers with lids and put the bricks into them (one bag to one container), that way none of the bricks get lost. There are over 1400 individual components so be prepared to spend time sorting through lots of items to find the one you are looking for. The instruction manual is an excellent example of how to guide someone through something literally one step at a time. If you are prepared to plan ahead (put the components into takeaway containers), follow the instructions and be patient, you took could build this.Only downside is the price.

Double check the gear installations before building.
1. Pins to retain road wheels not secure enough as wheels fall off.2. Change over gears require bedding in as the outside operating switches are not strong enough to transfer drive gears.3. Part number: 4211805 missing.4. Give extra care when building gear transfer for outrigger legs and jib for crane operation otherwise it’s a strip down to install.5. Cable from main motor to central connector unit not long enough.
