Torn between 4 stars, or 3..
This was the 12th Technic model I have built. I am just gonna cut to the chase. This model was close to being a real disappointment. I waited for almost 6 months to get it, and was pretty excited when I finally got it. I just built the 42069, and as awesome as that was, I thought this set would be even better. I was wrong. Some of the things I disliked: first is the function selector switch. These are complete and total garbage. Such a bad design they are almost unusable. Thankfully you can reach in and get to the selector arms to help switch the functions. The fucnctions are badly designed. You switch one to either drive the truck or do the other functions, then you either get to rotate and raise/lower the boom, or deploy/retract the outriggers and use the hoist on the boom. If they had done like the Volvo Loader 42030, and used two receivers and two remotes, and added another motor, you could do everything without having to use those horrible selector switches. Another thing that bugged me was the weird color choices for the chassis. There are wierd peach colored pieces, red, grey, dark grey, black, it just looks like they figured the parts were somewhat hidden so the colors didn't matter. For around $300, I just feel they didn't try to hard and basically sold this on the premise of huge tires and remote control. As far as that, it is pretty cool to drive around, but, again, the horrible selector switches just take the fun out of it. It's about like the dis-functuality of the 42065 Bucket Wheel Excavator.. All show and no go.. Oh, yeah, and this is the first set I was missing a part from.

Ok, here we go.
4/10/21: I have only unboxed at this time and, oh boy. The bags are NOT numbered. So assembly is going to be real fun (ha ha). Stay tuned.4/12/21: Well it lost a star, sorry. Assembly was a total pain in the butt. Once again Lego instruction are vague and do not show what you need to do properly. The lost star (should be two stars) is due to the cabling. The red cable somehow got caught in the gear system to raise and lower the side stabilizers and popped a gear off. I have had to nearly disassembly the thing to see what happened. Stay tuned.4/13/21: I would love to take off another start but I will wait. Finally got it all done and working for a change. Way too much effort for little reward and a costly one. Really think hard if you want to lay out what this 'thing' cost. Oh and you are not going to tow much, not that sturdy. Cheers!
