AQUALUNG Pro HD Compact BCD

Lightweight, fits in a carry-on roller bag, very comfortable. Has enough D rings and one good size pocket. Integrated weight system is secure and easy to use; inflator/deflator works well. I recommend this as a very good travel BCD.

Was nice and lite weight and travel well for Scuba gear.

First trip out we dove in 6-8 ft seas. I learned quickly that this BCD will face float you and requires active swimming to keep your head out of the water. Second: the shoulder straps do not detach. I didn't think this was important until I saw other divers remove their BCD's (due to rough water) before climbing the ladder back to the boat. Unless you have help, it would be hard to get out of this BCD in the water. The shoulder straps are thin and may cause chaffing. Finally, I had difficulty getting air out of this BCD while on a dive. I attempted to use the dumps (top and bottom) but that didn't work reliably. Couldn't get the inflater hose to dump air by pulling on it to release the top dump. In order to dump air, I had to assume an upright position while diving and use the deflator button on the hose. Pros: Good buoyancy under water. I'm 5'11" and 185 lbs and the medium fit well. This BCD improved my buoyancy under water, but damned near drowned me on the surface.

New to scuba so take everything written here with that in mind. I was certified in fresh water with a jacket style BCD and struggled some with buoyancy. My instructor noted that he thought some of my problem was from the air in the front of the jacket, so after my last certification dive, he loaned me his back plate and wing and I did a fun dive in just that. While my buoyancy improved dramatically, I found the BP&W to be uncomfortable (particularly the crotch strap). I ordered this BCD as part of an Aqua Lung package and have to say so far it's great. I have only dove in freshwater, but is great. The integrated weights are very secure, and the BCD is extremely comfortable and my buoyancy is just as good as in the BP&W. There is not a ton of storage, it just has the single pocket and some D-Rings, but that's plenty for what I need as all i carry is a compass, cutter, flashlight and SMB. Overall great product.
