Delicious and Easy
First time trying this. An easy way to get introduced to it. Rather than making it from scratch this is finished in 48 hours.

Easy home brew kit
I developed a taste for makgeolli after being introduced to it by a friend from Korea - and since I'm only able to find it at the Korean markets near me, I decided to learn to make my own. This kit makes it so easy! It's got everything you need except water and a vessel to ferment it in (a large glass jar or plastic pitcher will do). Makgeolli is a mildly alcoholic probiotic beverage, the taste is somewhat like an unfiltered sake. The taste will change depending how long you choose to ferment it - the 48 hours recommended on the package produced a very active probiotic drink that was somewhat sweet and starchy for my tastes, so I chose to ferment it for an additional day and ended up with a delicious, slightly tangy, effervescent drink. If you don't drink it right away and let it settle in your fridge, the solids will settle and leave a clear liquid on top - it can be enjoyed on its own or stirred up. I like this much better than store-bought makgeolli since it's stronger and also more full of live active culture! It's great for your gut and also delicious! I used my kit towards the end of it's use by date and it was still VERY fresh and alive. I'd record this to anyone trying to brew makgeolli at home for the first time, it's much easier than buying the culture (nuruk) and rice separately since there's nothing to measure aside from the water.

Makes a lot
It makes quite a bit. We used a gallon plastic jug to ferment the drink. So if you get this make sure you can consume it in a reasonable length of time. We found it good tasting and definitely had an alcohol content. We aren’t experts on how it should taste, but we liked it.

Makes a fast beverage, but seems better aged a bit
The mix ferments quickly into a lightly boozy and pleasantly tart drink, and I'm sure after a few days, it's probably true to the drink it's supposed to be. With that said, I'll add that I preferred it after a week of settling, so the haze was knocked out to make more of a clear beverage with a higher alcohol percentage. Although it's probably not normal for this type of beverage, I altered the final product by adding lemon juice and calorie free sweetener, to create a sort of hard lemonade. I've been making wine and beer for decades, so experimenting with this product was a lot of fun. I'm sure it could be a great base to make all sorts of flavored drinks, using various fruit juices or extracts to add flavors. I'd recommend this product. It works as advertised, is easy to use to make a pleasant beverage, and can be used as a base to make more complex drinks. I've saved some of the original batch in a jug with cloth over the top, to make rice wine vinegar, which is another practical use for this product.

Extremely sweet, like stevia but too much
This results in a beverage that is excessively sweet, even after 72 hours of vigorous fermentation, which I’m assuming is due to added sweeteners. Also, if anything besides typical beer yeast is present you can’t tell, it just tastes like sweet yeasty sugar water. It did ferment just fine and cleanly, but did not produce a classic rich refreshing beverage like I expected. I suggest making makgeolli the traditional way, with nuruk and steamed rice.

Yummy! exciting and fun project, but worth the price?
First time making alcohol beverage and instructions are easy and clear to follow. The whole process itself was very exciting for three days. It tastes really good too. I had kind of cheated and had a cup about every 12 hours during the fermentation. around 18 hours was best sweet tasting... and full 48 hours start to taste little sourness, but definitely alcohol content was stronger and still delicious. One tip I can share that was not in the instruction is when stirring powder and water, it doesn't break down completely just by stirring. Use the strainer and strain the clumped powder and break it down. Use two containers going back and forth with strainer, so all the powder gets dissolved. Also, saw definitely more fermenting movement, when left it in warmer place than room temperature. I would love to make some more, but looking at the ones I can buy from grocery shelf is...... Well, for sure first time experience is must try for sure.

Great
It takes a little bit of time and effort but you can make your own delicious Korean rice wine with this awesome kit! It tasted pretty good and I cannot buy any locally so if I ever want to have it I have to go to one of our few Korean restaurants and pay a lot just to have some. I loved it!
