Easy to use, got it running in two minutes.
I needed to use my static electric heater - no fan - because my main pastime is music creation. So I have an ancient 1kW electric bar heater, but like many old heaters it has no thermostat. This device, being simple to use and having the exact range, is perfect. It comes as default for ‘heating mode’. If you want cooling, you turn it over to the pronged side and slide off the tiny cover, then peer into the small gap revealed, there’s a tiny little raised bit of a switch, this raised bit is on the left by default, and it is almost impossible to see, but the raised bit is represented in the little graphic as the light-coloured part.Flick it with a tiny screwdrive, to the right, if you want to use a cooling fan say, instead of a heater. I need the default of heating. I guess the device needs to know if the temp is rising or falling, towards the target. Now I turn it over, so the front side is facing me, and I see there’s just one control - an on/off switch, a slider. I plugged mine in, fitted the heater plug into the device’s socket for the three-pin plug, and set it to 25 deg C or so, then slid the slider switch to ‘on’ (ie to the right). When I turn the dial up past the temperature the thermostatic believes it is at, it clicks ‘on’ and the LED goes green. When I turn it down past the temp it recognises as being presently experienced, the LED flicks to red, and the power gets knocked off to my old heater. So I have now set it at 25 deg C, and satisfyingly, in my loft, watched as it clicked ‘off’ once the temperature reached that - I tested this worked by simply putting my hand over the heater. It’s simple and it works, a great money-saving device. At our energy prices, it will pay for itself in a month. I was not paid or pressured to write this review. Take care all.

Works well but temperature dial isn't totally accurate
Works well, and i have mine plugged into a timer, so my conservatory is nice and warm when I start work in the mornings. Only niggle is that the temperature dial is not as accurate as it should be, but in practice it's fine as with a big of adjusting I've found the dial setting that works for me.

Saved my plants and my wallet!
Simple but key item to the solution of a big problem.I have a greenhouse and the temperature changes have been so drastic my plants started to die. I needed some heating system for my greenhouse. This is a small greenhouse as a hobby by the way. Heating with thermostats are very very expensive and some don't seem to work based on ambience temperature either so you have to set them manually. I can't do that at 3am in the morning. So, I pulled an extension cord to the greenhouse, and plugged in this little guy. I set the temperature and afterwards I plugged in a standard heater. I was skeptic so I stayed there till the greenhouse thermostat reached the threshold temperature and bam!!! the heating got turned on. I couldn't believe it, especially after all the research I did on thermostat heating. This plug!!! allowed the electricity to flow through when the ambient temperature reached the set temperature on the plug - SUCH A SIMPLE SOLUTION! I was so happy. It has a little light to let you know when is on/off and the temperature sensor is accurate. After the weather got better I started to use it in the loft to turn on the ventilator when it got too hot - YEP! you can set the setting to cool or hot depending on what you need it to do.And the PRICE of this!!! a bargain, I can't believe there aren't more products like this available for purchase.

completely unreliable
This looked the ideal item for providing background heat in an upstairs bedroom. However I have been very disappointed in its performance because basically it does not work as expected. I have tried it in various positions with 2 different heaters but after a full winter of trying I have now given up.Basically what happens it that suppose you have it set at 18 degrees and the temperature starts falling. When the temperature falls to 18 degrees the thermostat cuts in and powers the heater. Fair enough but after 10 minutes or so it just cuts out again. So after an hour or two the temperature has fallen to 16 degrees, still falling and the thermostat is still just cutting in and out. Instead of simply staying ON until the temp reaches 18 as required. Maybe I was unlucky but I can not recommend this item. It's a waste of time.
