Great album
I really enjoy this album. I ordered it in vinyl and it was good quality and played well on my little record player. I would recommend it to anyone, not only Chili Pepper fans.

It took me a few listens but....
OK, so I didn't LOVE it on the first go or even the second. However, after listening to this a few times it is growing on me more and more. In some spots it is down right weird.I love the funky Flea on base. John is without a doubt one of my all time fav guitar players and does not disappoint here. Really my only critique would be that I think the lyrics could be better. No Californication or Scar Tissue on this but the music is tight.I am not so naive as to think there is not Autotune but I appreciate the fact that it is not obvious. The station my wife listens to in the morning always seems to be playing Beiber and I have to get out of the room before I just smash the radio. Surprise! I am over 50 and I "generally" HATE Autotune.Anyways... So, glad to see RHCP back and so looking forward to seeing them live Aug. 12 in Nashville.

The Thompson's had another twin.
I carefully assessed the new Red Hot Chili Peppers album throughout the week. I was happy to have both John Frusciante and Rick Rubin back in the fold. At the same time, I immediately noticed the album had 17 tracks, which for me, is too long unless you hit it out of the park.I settled in all week long to listen and immerse. At first I felt there was a lot of filler. However, with more concentration and listens I began to hear the genius of the band in all 17 tracks. The layers, the interplay, the subtleties. In the end, I felt this album to be one of their stronger albums, and certainly better than their previous three. The band seems more focused and at ease here. Everything clicks. I thought about how original the band is--how there's no one else like them--and that's no small feat. They're funky, they rock, they roll, the pirouette with ballads. This is a band that plays together. They're not manufactured like most of today's contemporary artists. They are a throwback to the days when a band meant playing together in the studio and not twiddling nobs.I looked at some of the harsh reviews posted here and thought these 'fans' obviously weren't thinking the same thing while listening to "Unlimited Love". Or maybe they didn't really 'listen' at all. Perhaps they did the cursory skip through all the songs, or a once through, and decided that was it. Fine. One man's trash is another man's treasure. I'll keep "Unlimited Love" because I can hear the dedication in the music. This band seldom releases subpar music. That's not easy to do, either.Long live the Peppers. That being said, it's true that if you cut 7 of the songs, the album is much, much tighter. My selection of the best of the best would be "Black Summer", "Here Ever After", "Aquatic Mouth Dance", "Not the One", "Poster Child", "Bastards of Light", "White Braids & Pillow Chair", "One Way Traffic", "Veronica", and "Tangelo". Of course, you can mix and match your favorite ten and give it a listen to see if it's a tighter album. But you know, the band has never been known for its brevity.1984 Red Hot Chili Peppers: Two Stars1985 Freaky Styley: Two and a Half Stars1987 The Uplift Mofo Party Plan: Three Stars1989 Mother's Milk: Three and a Half Stars1991 Blood Sugar Sex Magik: Four Stars1995 One Hot Minute: Three Stars1999 Californication: Four and a Half Stars2002 By The Way: Five Stars2006 Stadium Arcadium: Three and a Half Stars2011 I'm With You: Three and a Half Stars2016 The Getaway: Three Stars2022 Unlimited Love: Four Stars

The best of their loco!
Wow, I have been binge-listening for a few weeks now and while every song on the disc isn't my favorite, I was thrilled to see the return of both John and Rick (Rubin). It seems like the very best music these guys have made has been produced by Rubin. There is clearly a reason for this relationship, and it becomes more compelling with every play of the disc. I was slightly disappointed with The Getaway, in spite of 5 or 6 compelling songs, and I still cry sometimes when I listen to the title track. Have been a fan since 1984-85, and while the earlier music had a raw urgency, the newest material has a self-reflexive funky quality that few others could duplicate. Initially, I wanted to flip over this disc, but it took me several listens to really embrace it. Love the funk/hip hop vibe of Aquatic Mouth Dance and the horns are flipping flawless! I cannot sit still when i hear it. And Poster Child just knocks me out like a punch from Iron Mike! I walk around my life singing choruses all the time and it just got delivered a fwe weeks ago. All hail the Chili Peppers. Wish I could afford to see you guys live on this tour, but 700 to 1500 for a ticket is NOT doable on Social Security. Will not be able to continue my Last Gasp Tour, where I go to places other than home (PDX) to see bands I love. It was a great time, but I don't travel as well now that im 67! Long live RHCP. Masters of funk rock.

Great Album, horrible packaging if you get the CD
The media could not be loaded. I already had this on clear vinyl and it's an excellent album, but since autorip again wasn't made available to me after that vinyl purchase... (a frequent occurrence), I went ahead and picked up the CD also when it went on deal. The CD is in one of those super thin cardboard sheaths and it looks like someone sat it under a couple of bricks for a week or two... It's so flattened&thin that once you add it to your collection, you'll have trouble seeing it among the other CDs on the shelf. Some of the worst CD packaging I've seen in my life, and I've been buying CDs since the early nineties.
