Easy to read language. Descriptive explanations and helpful examples
I purchased this book as part of my CCNA networking course I am taking with my school. I am working towards an IT degree with a concentration in Cisco technologies, so this book is right in line with achieving that goal. I have read the Network + certifications book prior to this one that is also part of the "Networking" series of books published by Cengage Learning, and I must say this book was much easier to read and understand. The authors use easy to read, accessible language even when explaining complicated concepts. Examples are spot on and enhance the ideas presented. The reading flows very well and I find myself able to memorize and really comprehend the ideas here much better than my previous Network + book. The breakdown of the OSI layer model, the description of how subnets work, description of TCP/IP suite and data encapsulation are all excellent. Going through how Cisco IOS software works and how to navigate through the different functions of a Cisco router and switch are great and very practical. I have a switch I can mess around with at work and I've been able to directly apply the concepts presented in this book to my work immediately. The questions at the end of each section challenge your knowledge of the material you just read and prepare you well for the CCNA exam. I haven't gotten delve into the disc material yet, but I'm sure it's great and super helpful for studying for this exam. I'll write a follow-up to this review when I get through all the material. But so far, really good.If you'd like a really good CCNA exam study companion, I don't think you need to look much further! I don't have any other CCNA certification prep books to compare this with, so take my review as it is. But I don't believe you'll be very disappointed.
