Helpful, practical guidance for parents of tweens
As a mom of two tweens, I find Ockwell-Smith's book both fascinating and helpful, all information and guidance implementable and relevant. The author has organized the chapters efficiently, so that we first review brain development and then move into the impact thereof. I appreciate that Ockwell-Smith provides info in a manner easily understandable by the layman, and that her tone is informative rather than pedantic. Some information about schooling and future aspirations is specific to UK readers, but the dots are easy-enough to apply to my home country (USA). Overall, this is an easy, interesting read and has made an immediate impact on how my husband and I make parenting choices.Note: this book is for PARENTS; Amazon (USA) has erroneously slated this book as having a reading age of 8-13 years old.

Perfect for parents of their first pre-teen!
This book describes what you can expect as your pre teen evolves into an adolescent, provides suggestions on how you can manage difficult situations or avert them and give parents a sense of support and direction when navigating these new waters.

Not what I expected
I thought I was getting a book looking at specific problems I’d encounter and how best to deal with them in a pragmatic way, such as kids being exposed to vaping, pornography, and violence through peers, or anxiety about school shootings, etc. Instead I got a *very* basic book essentially covering how to do gentle parenting. A couple of chapters were helpful, such as the one one brain development, but I found 80% of the book to be basic knowledge I already possessed.
