Excellent for Lego and Car Enthusiasts alike
I got this on sale today.and I feel it's a good value even at full price. The build techniques were fun and unique, piece selection could hardly be faulted and you can tell both the person who submitted the idea/original design and the Lego employees who ultimately delivered it really sweat the details. The downsides are that I wouldn't recommend it for a child or for 'play'. It's really a display piece.Other than that, while the pieces used were excellent, some of the attachment mechanisms are only okay. The dash isn't held in very well and the angled bars on the roll cage don't attach to the rest of the cage.Overall I'd give the Caterham a 9.If you're debating this or the F40 and you can swing the extra $, I'd go for the F40. It's simply a better and more complex build that is an instant collectible.

Fantastic to build and display, too fragile to play
Fantastic set to build and display, unfortunately it is a bit fragile. The way a few parts are designed to fit together is somewhat curious. The nose cone, the hood, the rear cover and body panel, and the dashboard piece all come to mind. The hood could easily be remedied by adding a few more studded pieces to hold it in place better. Along with that, the nose cone has fallen off several times just by picking it up to admire it. The rear body panel is held on with just two hooks to make it angle appropriately, but given some time I think I could find a better way to achieve the same look. The rear cover includes part of the roll bar that is not attached at all to the main bar, and simply rests in place at an angle. The entire dashboard/windscreen is held on by one axle piece, and wiggles easily. It should also come with skinnier tires, to match the real Seven and not have them stick out beyond the fenders. The Caterham Seven certainly is a tricky car to turn into Lego, so for the most part the original Ideas builder and the Lego designer did a good job. I still think it could be refined to make a more solid, finalized product. It was very fun to build, cool to see how they solved the problem that is the Seven's unique body shape.

Great project
I'm a gear head and my dream is to build a Caterham one day. I told my wife this and as we don't have 50-100k to drop on a car with no roof, she got me the next best thing!Great design and fit (would you expect anything else from Lego?). Finish is awesome. All graphics are printed on. No decals to deal with. Large piece count and took a few lazy afternoons to finish. Would highly recommend.

Great Lego set
This Lego set looks great. This set was very fun to build and i love that l Lego printed the details on Legos and didn't have us apply stickers. It took me less then 2 hours to build. What i had trouble is the is the nose of the car, it can easily fall off also the trunk of the car is sitting there, it's not connect to anything but it shouldn't be a problem if you use it as display. This Lego set will go great with the others large Lego sets(e.x Ferrari, Volkswagen).

it is really geared towards older folks - some teenagers might enjoy but not sure the younger kids would be up ...
I purchased this as a Christmas present for my husband and he was SO excited. As others have said, it is really geared towards older folks - some teenagers might enjoy but not sure the younger kids would be up for it. My husband assembled this in 2-3 hours. He said the instructions were good and that everything fit together really nicely. The final product is pretty cool looking! The best thing is that the decals are pre-printed on the legos so you don't have to try to place stickers.

Awesome Lego kit. A lot of fun to put together.
I've done a bunch of lego kits over the years, as have my wife and kids. Recently I've been doing a lot of the Architecture series, but as I've always been a fan of the Lotus Super 7 (mostly hooked because of the TV show "The Prisoner"), I really wanted to build this one. It is a very cool kit. Lots of pieces and detail that made it a lot of fun to build. The instructions are very well done and the numbered bags made it easy to not have all of the pieces out at one time. I'd say this Lego set was probably the most fun of any I've ever put together. My son commented that it seemed very similar to the kit of a Mini that he did a year or so ago.

Almost as fun as driving one!
My husband went crazy for this Christmas gift. It took him less than a week of intermittent assembly sessions to complete the car, although he did have intimate knowledge of this car in real life since he built his own real, full size Lotus 7 about 20 years ago from salvaged parts. He assures me that Lego didn't miss a single detail. He was more than delighted and the completed car now occupies pride of place on display on a well lit living room wall shelf.

Decent value - fun and easy to assemble
Overall, this is a nice Lego set. It was fairly quick to build (under 4 hours). I’ve done several Lego car models, all of which have been from the Expert model groups. I feel like this one (being from the ideas series) was of lesser quality. Some of the parts are held in place very minimally, more like a kid designed it, not an adult. To me, this detracted from the value. Being that it is a display item, this does not affect the performance.
