Finally! I great waffle maker.
I'm sort of a waffle snob. I want crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Most waffle makers let me down, so I decided to pay the eye-watering price on this one. It did not disappoint!1. Waffles are perfectly cooked. They are also huge, 5x5 inches in size and an inch thick. One is enough for a serving. And the description doesn't mention this, but the waffles have large, one inch, Belgian style indentations.2. If you measure out 1/2 cup batter per square, the batter will make a perfect waffle, filling the mold completely without overflowing. No missing corners. Also, each mold is like a tub, which is why it holds the batter so well. (not a flat plate like most wafflers.)3. If any batter overflows (rare) there's a large "batter moat" that not only catches the spill, but cooks it, so you can pick it out with your finger.4. The lid is on a special, loose hinge, so when baking, the lid literally floats on the batter, allowing the waffle to rise (thus, a fluffy interior). Plus, it allows steam to escape.5. It takes about 5 minutes to cook, and at the end, there's a beep (most waffle makers don't have beepers.) There's also a "ready" light.6. Two controls: on/off and a darkness setting which controls when the "ready" signals go off. You can choose between 1-5 and manual. I think "manual" just turns off the "ready" signals so you can cook for as long as you want. The knobs are smooth metal cylinders which are easy to use unless you have a dexterity problem. The more expensive version of this waffler has digital controls and a display screen, which I think is overkill.7. Like all wafflers, it has a nonstick coating on the plates. I had to use non-stick spray for the first batch or two, but wasn't needed afterwards.8. Waffler is well built but that means it's heavy. It's also large and has to sit flat for storage. it has an indentation on the bottom to wrap the cord, but no place to stow the plug at the end of the cord. So with the cord wrapped, it won't sit flat in storage.Overall, I love this appliance and I think I'll be eating waffles more often (going to try mashed potato dinner waffles soon!) Hint - my manual had no recipes, but if you download the manual from the Breville website (under support), it has four recipes. The Belgian waffle batter is amazing.

Very happy with this waffle iron!
I inherited an old Vintantonio waffle iron from my mother-in-law when she passed. The thing has to be at least 60 years old. It still works great, and I have become the family's official maker of "Grampy Waffles". One of my granddaughters will even have her mother call to put her on Facetime to inform me that she is out of waffles. I dreaded the thought that the existing Vintantonio would die and I would be scrambling to retain my waffle-making reputation. I purchased a backup about a year ago. I made one batch with it and it has sat in the basement ever since. The waffles took forever to cook, and were not crisp. You could see the steam coming out of the waffle-maker while they cooked.I decided to try again with the Breville because of the reviews it got, and because I own other Breville products that I like. It's a winner! What I like:- The bottom side the batter goes into is deeper than the top and it has a moat around it to collect any excess batter.- I didn't need to put it on the highest setting to get waffles that were nice and crisp (an indication it has plenty of power)- The waffles do come out nice and crisp- I can make four at once which helps when feeding several people at once- The non-stick surface is awesome and easy to cleanThe limited downside:- It does take a bit longer to cook 4 waffles than the existing one takes to to prepare two, but given all the positives, I'm good with it.This will now be my #1 waffle maker and the Vitantonio will be moved into the position of backup. It deserves a rest.

Perfect Right Out of The Box, Top Handle Is Very Tall
The photo is of the very first batch, cooked on the middle “3” setting. They’re perfect, golden brown, crispy outside, soft and completely cooked inside. This makes very large and deep Belgian style waffles, so the usual recipe that makes two or three waffles on my old thin-style waffle maker was just enough to make one batch of four squares on this machine. The waffle iron heated very quickly, chimed when ready, and chimed again when done, couldn’t be easier. The only issue I found was the very tall upper handle, it’s 19 inches when opened fully at 90 degrees, but my upper kitchen cabinets are only 18.5 inches from the countertop. I solved this by placing the waffle iron sideways, a minor inconvenience.Got this model on an Amazon Warehouse deal, outer box was a bit rough, but the waffle iron was perfect, never used, all in its original packaging.

Best Waffle Maker We Ever Bought!
WOW, what a great tool! This waffle maker makes perfect waffles every time with no mess. Every time we used our old waffle maker there was a big clean-up because the batter flowed out and down the outside. We purchased the Breville Smart Waffle Maker six months ago. This waffle maker has deep wells for the waffles, which keeps the batter inside. There is also a moat around the outside edge, to catch anything that does manage to overflow, not that it ever does. This waffle maker also has an excellent non-stick coating, so the waffles come out easily without needing cooking spray. This also makes clean-up easier, because without cooking spray, there is no oil on the cooking surfaces to wash off. Breville also added a finger hole to the power plug making it easier to unplug. A very well thought out appliance. We highly recommend the Breville Smart Waffle Maker. I also recommend my wife's waffle recipe, it makes the best waffles ever! Sorry, the recipe is not available.
