To say "metal and wood" is a bit of a stretch. Metal, yes; wood, maybe. The #1 thing to know about this desk is that the rustic look is not from real wood, but rather a laminate. The laminate is VERY, VERY thin. I use the desk as a daily workspace, usually working from a laptop. My laptop is quite small and has little rubber feet on it, but I accidentally let the corner of my laptop scrape across the desk. The laminate is PAPER THIN, not durable AT ALL, and came right off, leaving white scratches in its wake. Strangely, because the desk is designed to look rustic, it doesn't look terrible even with the scratches, but is absolutely not what I would have expected. To call it a laminate, or even a finish, is a stretch. The "finish" is basically a photo-realistic piece of paper that is somehow affixed to the desk.LOVE the desk, but buyer beware of this. If you're looking for something simple that will not look perfect forever, this is the desk for you.

So I absolutely love this bookshelf!! It’s exactly what I’ve been searching for to match my rustic farmhouse style decor. It’s reasonably priced and looks great. However....it is not sturdy at all...I have everything tightened as much as they will and all holes lined up well. I have it on carpet and I figured that was the reason, but I moved to my tile floor to check and the balance is better obviously, but still easy to shake/wobble back and forth.So pick and chose your battle with this shelving unit.

I ordered two of these to go with my matching tv stand. They are exactly how I was hoping they'd look in the perfect gray shade. The downside? They arrived in the shipping box chipped up. Something tore into the "wood" in one area and chipped the gray in others. Because we had just moved in, I completely forgot to tell it to the seller until two months later. I'm lucky that you can only see some of the chips and the big tear in the wood is facing the wall. For how expensive these were, I did expect a better quality wood and coloring but if you look at them from afar, they look nice.

I love this shelf. It was easy to put together, very spacious and the quality is great. I will say that it does seem to lean and not stand as sturdy when placed on carpet. This however was very easy to remedy. I placed a command hook on my wall and then secured a clear zip tie to the metal safety hook on the shelf and then hook that onto the command hook that is attached to the wall. This secured the shelf to the wall nicely, without having to actually drill into the wall to secure it. You are not even able to see the command hook when looking at the shelf straight on so I was pleased with this hack. However I wouldn't recommend doing this to those who may have smaller children in their house. But in that case, the shelf does come with a safety strap that can be bolted into the wall. Nice piece for the price.

Saying we were disappointed is an understatement. The description clearly states the material is WOOD. There is no mention anywhere that the bookcase is fiberboard or manufactured wood. One of the main reasons we chose the piece, was it's description. There are may manufactured wood items to choose from... We also did not receive the correct hardware. We went on and assembled it using some of our own hardware as there was an immediate need. I really feel we were duped or tricked by the description. Manufactured "wood" is usually a mixture of sawdust and or byproducts mixed with glue which makes the so-called "wood" very heavy. We are seniors and handling this to assemble was difficult. When the supplied hardware was used as the instructions indicated, screws applied by hand, not with electrical drill, the "wood" split in several locations because of the cheap product. The item is overpriced for something that is not real wood. We will not return the product because it's too heavy to move around and disassemble, but we feel we should be compensated for the deceptiveness displayed.
