4 years later - VERY well worth the purchase!
It's been FOUR YEARS since I bought this and I HAVE to up-date! Do NOT hesitate to purchase this! Don't bother to look else-where! For 4 years I haven't used the stove at all because this little gem cooks everything from pot roasts through stews, soups, fried foods, pancakes, eggs, absolutely EVERY-THING! And I've noticed a MAJOR difference in my utility bills since I've used it. It cooks as well (and almost as quickly) as the stove but using a LOT LESS power!CUISINART REALLY out-did themselves with this item! I've NEVER been moved to actually WANT to let people know about a truly GREAT item, but I can't resist this time.BUY! With confidence! Less expensive will be "cheaper" in quality and I don't think ANYTHING can beat this!4 years and it works as well as it did right out of the box! Easy to clean, maintain.Yes, the top does get hot so be careful of that. And my ONLY disappointment is that it does scratch easily. Hopefully CUISINART has done something about that. But other-wise... a truly remarkable appliance that has served for 4 years... and with DAILY use!(Original Review)I've waited 8 months before reviewing because I wanted to be sure this was worth the purchase and IT IS! Because I rent from a landlord who knows the stove supplied doesn't work & refuses to replace it, I bought this, hoping to be able to use it for every day cooking. I didn't expect much from it but today, I can say that I've cooked complete meals including pot roasts, soups, deep fried foods & the likes (mostly on the larger of the 2 burners). Yes, it takes a few minutes longer than the stove to heat, & it's best to use covered pots, cooking time takes mere minutes longer, but the convenience and the reduction in my electric bills have MORE than paid for it. I'd originally tried to save by purchasing a "sound-alike" brand, and that didn't last through the first use. So the extra money spent has been more than worth the investment. I just wish Cuisinart hadn't surrendered to the "Made In" because the difference in quality is noticeable. But other-wise, I can say that, this being all that's available, it IS worth the investment. Just be sure to watch for "boil-overs" as these can make a bit of a difficult clean-up on the burners. But with regular care, mine looks today, as good as it did when it came out of the box!

Best little cook top ever!
I am building my home out of pocket and am not ready to purchase a stove just yet. I have a camp style set up in my kitchen. I have had this cooktop for a year now and it has treated me well. I use cast iron and stainless steel cookware. It makes crunchy popcorn, pasta, potato’s of any description, fried chicken, bacon, sauce…you name it. The second smaller burner does take li her to heat up than the main burner if I have the main burner on also. I can use both at the same time, it just takes a little longer. No complaints here. The unit does get hot to the touch so be careful. I usually keep a low d over the empty burner when I am cooking to keep splatter off of it. I wish Cuisinart made normal size stoves with these cast iron burners. They are wonderful. The burners stay warm for quite a while after you turn them off. I use this every day, and so far no issues.

very glad I bought this one
Very happy with this and it works great -- and YES, it boils a big pot of water on the big burner from cold tap temperature. It takes awhile of course and usually we boil a pot of water in the electric kettle any time we make pasta to speed it up, but I just wanted to see if it would work. Made a whole pound box of pasta just fine.Anyway I bought this to complete our low-budget "outdoor kitchen". It gets too hot to really cook in our house in the summer, so we put a toaster oven, instant pot and now this burner on a little bbq prep table outside. I've gotta say it's pretty awesome! We can bake and fry and make rice and soups and stuff without heating up the house. And making pancakes outside on the weekends is just awesome (see pic). I did a lot of research here on portable double burners and honestly I went with this one because it's the only brand I recognized. We own other Cuisinart stuff and it's all good stuff, so that did it for me. And I'm pleasantly surprised by this burner and am glad I went with it. The metal casing does get pretty hot when you're cooking but duh, of course it does. And the right burner does get very hot. This is all we would ever need outside, so I imagine it would be perfect in an RV or camping or in a small apartment (where we lived for years before moving here). So all in all I think it's totally worth the price, looks good, functions well and I definitely recommend it.I don't get anything for writing this review by the way -- just trying to be helpful.
