MegaChess Large Premium Chess Pieces Complete Set with 12 Inch Tall King - Black and White

Large chess set. My son loves chess. So I built a large chess board on the floor of a loft / game room I had built. Used checkered vinyl tiles.Pieces are as described. Molded plastic, but very thick. Easily 1/8" thick plastic. Heavier than expected.Good quality.

I like the sturdy traditional design. I need to add weight to the bottom since sometimes it gets windy here and they are not heavy enough to withstand strong wind and stay on the board. But I love the set.

I ordered this set because my older set of 12-inch King pieces had become brittle. I have dogs that knock pieces over from time to time and chipping, even shattering of pieces had become an issue. I've always glued them back together, but I thought I'd get a newer, less-worn set for the garden chess board. I have a garden board with 12" x 12" tile squares. My old set had garden checkers pieces included. I was glad this set was only chess pieces since we have limited places to store giant game pieces.The old set had pieces of a similar height but they were slightly wider. They were also made of a different plastic, much harder, and they were considerably more detailed. The Rooks had very deep castle tops, etc. They looked more expensive. This set is smaller in the body and base, the same height, but being made of molded plastic, they have far less detail. They look a little puffy, sort of like beach toys, and if weighted would probably be a great set to take to the beach. If you have a large board, as I do, and you can afford it, I'd probably go up a size or more with these. I took it down one star for the lack of detail on the Rooks and Bishops. This set is made for a smaller board, but they still look okay on my patio board.The advantage to these is they are a softer plastic product that won't break if turned over or grabbed by a dog or a child. So we've decided to keep them as our set to play when dogs are in the yard with us. We have once again repaired our old set. We're going to paint them a different pair of colors so we'll have a set for when guests are over and dogs are inside, plus a set for everyday use with dogs or kids in the yard. I wish these were a bit wider at the base, but they'll work for our needs. As to the comments about weighting them, we'll just drill an opening, add sand, and plug it up if we decide that's needed. So far, they look as if they'll be okay as they are.

It didn't even come with the game board! It was just a box filled with light weight plastic chess pieces ! For the $ spent, I'd at least expect some kind of plastic game board!

These are fun to use outside and gets the whole family involved.

These pieces are durable and have more weight and thicker plastic than I anticipated. More than I wanted to spend, but high quality
