These are the genuine New Orleans item
I am from Louisiana, New Orleans to be exact. a New Orleanian would never make a pot of red beans with any brand but Camellia. When I first moved to Texas, I wanted to make a pot of red beans. i was stunned when no grocery store carried them. They would point out another brand saying that were just the same. i look at the askance and walked away. After that I started having family and friends ship me 10 pounds of them at a time. The same thing happened in KOURY when my daughter asked me to make red beans for her friends. I told her to buy two pounds of red beans and she returned with some generic "kidney" beans. I told her, "No Camellia, no red beans!" Something told me to check Amazon, and once again, they came through for me. I ordered the 2 pounds of beans, with my Prime account, they arrived in two days, and my daughter had red beans and rice to serve her friends.

Fantastic for making classic red beans and rice.
Fantastic for making classic red beans and rice. They had a great flavor and an ultra creamy texture, that was significantly better than the store brand red beans I used a couple weeks earlier. I hadn't bought Camellia beans before (they don't carry them in stores in our area) but I shelled out a bit extra for them to try as many had mentioned them as their go to bean brand for red beans and rice. I think next time i'll order them directly from Camellia to get a better price on a big order, but i'll definitely get them again.

The Quintessential Southern Red Bean..... Dats right.
Moved to the PNW and could not find the right kind of red bean for Red Beans and Rice so I took to Amazon for help. I made a huge pot of beans with a ham hock and andouille sausage in honor of the New Year. Those beans are still being talked about. I don't use recipes a lot, so when I really nail it - I have to sit down and do the recipe in reverse - so I can try to nail it again! This batch was singing..." Why don't we go... down to New Orleans ???"

This is the only kind of red beans to use for autentic red beans and rice.
You cannot get the "real deal" of New Orleans red beans and rice by using any other brand. I grew up on this in the New Orleans area but now live too far away to get it stores. This is the one and only brand. We only ever use water, ham hocks or shanks, salt, onion, & garlic. Nothing more. Except, of course, the rice. This was a bargain because the shipping was very reasonable. Other sellers are charging ridiculous shipping.

I will never order them again, I'm on a fixed income and losing 40.00 was a big hurt on me.
Couldn't use them the bags came tore up in the box had to throw them away, was told that there was no reimbursement for them , the two bags were 40.00 , really wow

Only Camellia Beans for "Hilda's Beans and Rice"
I am Irish Channel-New Orleans born. My recipe for red-beans-n-rice is Mother's recipe. We call it "Hilda's Beans and Rice." No other red bean will do except Camellia beans. I cook up 2 pounds at a time which makes 8 large servings. We eat 2 right away and then freeze the other 6 serving in three 1-quart freezer bags. The 2 pound bag of Camellia beans is sheer perfection. Good price, when your local store is out, and fair priced, prompt shipping.

These beans don’t cook evenly!
This is second time I have purchased red beans from Camellia Red Kidney beans over two years. With cooking the second order of beans to make chili I realized what I don’t like about these beans - they do not cook evenly. I don’t usually pre-soak since I don’t normally do this for pressure cooking red beans. Cooked them for 1 ½ hours and tasted a couple of beans and they were perfect - soft not mushy. These beans were tasty in comparison to a supermarket package which I didn’t like. I made up the chili and when we had it for dinner we noticed quite a number of the beans were crunchy. I estimate maybe 25% were undercooked. Even though the beans simmered in the chili for an hour or more this did not soften the beans at all.Perhaps pre-soaking would alleviate this problem though I’ve tried with other brands and it hasn’t.
