Works perfectly (after you update to MacOS Monterey)
I was initially disappointed how this performed with 2019 16" MacBook Pro but looks like Apple finally fixed it's stuff.Initial problems:My 4k60 BenQ display refused to work with this via both hdmi and display port. A wide 4k60 LG display did work, bit it was kinda weird: it took 5-10 seconds for the display to get the signal then it'd work for 5 seconds then the display would go black for a few seconds and after that it would work just fine. Until you disconnect or go into sleeping that is. After that I'd have to go though that weird ritual again. I end up using this doc with LG display but overall the impression was average at best. My girlfriend needed a dock and I did not recommend her buying this. After Apple rolled out MacOS Monterey:Now this doc works freaking flawless. Both BenQ and LG display work (via hdmi at least), it connects instantly and doesn't go black anymore. Looks like Apple finally fixed it's connectivity and I retract all the negatives I have said about this dock. The reason I'm writing this review almost 6 months later is because I got back to this page to buy another one for my girlfriend. It works really well now.

Really handy
I have been using this with an M1 MBP for about six months now- and have found it utterly invaluable.I've used a nice chunky Anker 100W rated USB-C cable between the dock and the PSU. Then the dock is connected to the Mac via a (nice short Caldigit) Thunderbolt cable. I have the dock running an external monitor over Displayport, which works like a charm. The card reader is pretty good- generally getting solid speeds. It's a shame that it doesn't have more USB-A sockets, so I hang a little four port Anker unpowered USB 3 hub from the one that's present. That's where I plug in keyboard, mouse, Da Vinci Resolve dongle and external soundcard.. that mostly works fine, sometimes needs replugging on boot before I can use the keyboard to type my encryption password. It mostly works OK though, it's not annoying enough to work out if it's the Anker hub or the dock being squirrelly.Generally, it's great. Being able to plonk the MBP down, plug in one thunderbolt cable and be ready to go is really nice. I'm very happy with this device.

Its amazing when it works
I have been using this CalDigit USB-C Gen2 Dock for a few months now. I have a M1 Macbook Pro and an LG External Monitor which I have been connecting it to. It works fairly well and the connection remains stable which is great. I like how it gives me the ability to charge multiple devices as well plus it is very small and portable. For the most part it works as well as it is intended to do. I have noticed that it can get quite warm sometimes but I don't consider that a massive issue as it does not get hot enough to burn you.It does have a few issues though. Firstly it can be quite hard to get it to connect to an external display. Sometimes i have to remove and insert the USB-C cable which connects the dock to my Macbook multiple times before my external display shows the second screen. Also I have seen it fail to work a few times. The display shows up as a second screen but then the colours are completely off and it looks like the screen is broken. And I have also seen it display static on the screen like those old TV's when the connection fails to work too.Fortunately it does work eventually but it can be annoying having to fiddle around with it to get it to work. One more thing to mention is on occasion the dock fails to show a picture if your computer went into sleep mode. You might have to do the whole reconnect and disconnect the cable routine over again. However I think that if you either shut down or restart your computer the dock usually works as you would expect it to. No reconnecting required.

Embarassingly poor
Do not bother, its appallingly unreliable.Upon plugging it in for the first time, only the HDMI output worked, USB PD charging was non functional.Every time after that, plugging it into my computer resulted in a hang.I bought this thing to replace a $20 Aliexpress no-name hub that provides many of the same features, except that it actually works every time.

Fantastic Item - Keep one thing in mind when using with the new M1 Macbooks
The dock works exactly as advertised and my experience/use case is a bit nich. I own a Macbook Air M1 and had a Dell U3421WE monitor (the one with the USB-C Dock built in) and one of the issues with the new M1 macbook is that not all displays work in RGB mode. I have read on a few forums that in order to RGB to work some people have employed a dock to overcome this issue - with limited success unfortunately. Unfortunately the dock still displayed everything in YPbPr instead of RGB, making the text look blurry, rendering the display unusable. The same display connected to a Dell Laptop work flawlessly. So overall, it's a great dock and I love what it offers but it's not for me (until Apple fix the issues with some external displays).

Great, when it decides to work
When it works, everything almost works. It overheats a lot and sometimes some of the USB ports stop working.

Does the Job
I've been using this for a number of months now and have had no issues with it. It was very quick to connect and links with my Mac seamlessly. My only issue is that it does get rather hot so you need to make sure its not used were it is likely to be touched.
