If you are a young pastor or interested in the ministry this book is excellent! Spurgeon gives timeless advice on pastoral work and the ministry. Some of my favorite chapters are on discerning the call to preach and the ministers prayer life. One of my favorite books!

This book is so amazing if you’re looking for spiritual growth and deeper insight. Definitely thought provoking and convicting. I’d say it’s essential for your library.

A lot of great teachings in this book. Spurgeon was aa phenominal man and pastor. Very enjoyable read and getting a glimpse of his mind as he teaches the Word is a blessing.

I believe this book is an unofficial prerequisite to anyone aspiring to be a minister, and not in the way you would think. Spurgeon's honesty is Golden and will spare many people from the failure that I never expected to encounter until I read this. He makes some extremely valid points and let's you know from the get-go whether or not you are cut out for this work. A huge yes if I'm asked whether or not an aspiring preacher should purchase this book. You should of bought it yesterday!

In this day of loose and lost values, here is a beacon of light.
