You just tap the bottom part to turn on and cycle through the colors. The colors all have a different brightness so you can customize really anyway you want. I try to avoid night lights with batteries and we have no visible outlets good for those kind. This is just perfect. I use my own USB adapter thing to keep it plugged into the wall. My kid uses every night all night long with no issues.

I ordered this for my 3 year old and 2 year old. Both girls have major sleep problems but this light gives off the perfecting lighting to help them fall asleep. Its a soft glow and they love being able to choose a different color every night
