Best shoe in the world for running
This is the best running shoe in the world. Also for rock climbing and hiking and gym it's the best. The only better shoe was the trail glove 1, the original. I hope the company will not "tinker" with it more. The 6 and 7 are awful. They have a thick sole! Maybe merrell will bring this legend back by the time I need new ones 🙂. These are invincible, I have trusted them literally with my life scrambling, flying down hills from California to new England, and everywhere in between. Trail glove 1, 4, and 5 are the good ones. If you want true zero drop with extremely tough vibram to protect against rocks or other sharps. I'd pay three digits if they bring these back in the future.

Need to buy another pair! Have loved this brand for years!

High arch support.
Let me start this by saying I never leave reviews for items. But after reading a bunch I thought my experience might help someone else. I’ve been running barefoot or minimalistic shoes or about 15 years now. Started with vibrant and have tried a few other brands. I have rather high arches so extra support is a nice addition. This is my first pair for the trail gloves but being a toe / barefoot runner the height arch support is a nice bonus for me. I’ll probably get a pair of the 6. Just to see the difference. But for me I enjoy the extra support the 5 gives.Happy running.

Chiropractor's Take
I took a deep dive to find the right shoe. I am a 50yr old Chiro woth 20+ years of experience. I can tell you that this shoe is great for those who want a roomy and flexible shoe that also protects and supports. If you want super minimalist then go with the Merrell Vapors. I think the support in these shoes are good for most people. There are so many people with arch issues related to poor biomechanics from living the modern life. These shoes have just enough support to guide your stance and gait into an optimal position. I understand why Merrell did this. Shoes won't fix all your foot problems. Plus the average person does not have the time, patience and comprehension to deal with their dysfunctional gait patterns in a "bare-foot" shoe. These have plenty of toe box width for the average foot but probably not for hobbit feet. I would size up and then tighten the heel cup if this is you. The zero drop feature is weird at 1st but I think it's important to gradually get used to any new shoe by wearing it sparingly at 1st. I personally like these and I get enough nueral feedback from the thinner soles and flexible casing to build the ankle and foot stability.

Merrell quality
I just tried these on and they fit perfectly. I noticed a really nice arch support so I know they will provide good comfort. I will take these out for a walk as soon as the snow melts but I know this was a good purchase. Thank you.

Great shoes so far
Got these to replace a pair of hiking boots I had. I have had similar pairs in the past, just not the trail version. I wore them a handful of times to walk the dog, before using them for hikes in RMNP. I basically didn’t break them in and I had zero problems. I love that they are minimal, zero drop and have a wide toe box. They were true to size and very comfortable. I had no issues with feeling rocks or anything, through the sole. With my current pair of barefoot Inov8’s I workout in, that is a problem outside. Obviously this is a different application, but I wanted a similar fit and feel. I hope that they hold up well, because they’re exactly what I was hoping for

Excellent shoes, but didn't last very long.
I love these shoes in all respects, so the only reason I am giving a score of 3 is because of poor longevity. After just over 5 months of wear - probably 5 days a week - the upper has worn right through on the left side of the right shoe at the point where the shoes bends with the foot. No such problem with the left shoe, even though the problem is entirely wear and tear related.I am taking a leap of faith and ordering a replacement pair and I'll be happy to share my experience with those too.

I researched the best trail running shoe on the market before getting these
I wanted a trail running shoe with a roomy toe box and good arch support. I also wanted souls that would grip any surface from ice to mud without picking up debris. I wanted a shoe that I could be in and out of water and it would dry out on its own in time. The shoe can slip or be laced as tightly as anyone could want. I found it in an ultramarathon review of the best ultramarathon trail running shoes it was third. I wear a size 13 and it runs true to size as the 13 fit me perfectly. I wish these were available 40 years ago when I ran my first 100 miler. When I run they're so light and fit so well. I feel like I'm running and padded socks.
