Unlocking the Potential of Project Based Learning in Early Childhood: A Must-Read for Educators
"Implementing Project Based Learning in Early Childhood: Overcoming Misconceptions and Reaching Success" is an essential read for anyone interested in incorporating PBL in their early childhood education curriculum. The authors, Sara Lev, Erin Starkey, and Amanda Clark, bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the table, and their insights are invaluable.Throughout the book, the authors tackle common misconceptions surrounding PBL in early childhood education, such as the idea that it is not appropriate for young children or that it is too difficult to integrate with other subjects. They also discuss the importance of sustained inquiry and the role of literacy in PBL. But what sets this book apart from others is the way the authors go beyond exploring misconceptions, and provide tangible solutions, ideas, and implementation strategies to help readers understand and apply the concepts presented. As someone who has been working to infuse PBL and authentic learning experiences into K-12 education for some time, I've read many books on the subject. But this book has had the biggest impact on my philosophy, understanding, and capabilities when it comes to supporting students and learners in developing learning environments that are in the best interests of the learner, regardless of age or ability. If you're an educator, administrator, or parent interested in PBL in early childhood education, this book is a must-read. It belongs on the bookshelves of anyone interested in providing the best possible education for young learners.

A Valuable Resource
I picked up this book to use as a resource for understanding how project based instruction can be done at the early years of education. I had always known that it could be done but, being a secondary teacher, I was concerned that it couldn't be as rich as projects that are done at the higher levels of education. The authors have assured me that, yes, pbl can be done at a high level with these young students. From examples of coaching students through their thought processes to walking the reader through a project completed by one of the authors, this book was able to bring to life project based learning. I am now sold that pbl can and should be done Pre-k through post secondary. A great read.

A must-read for any teacher wanting to use project-based learning
Whether you are new to project-based learning (PBL), or have already given it a try, this book will be an excellent use of your professional reading time. The difference between this book and other PBL books I have read is that it is not just a step by step method on how to design a project (although this will help you to do that, too). In other books I have felt that I am just being led through a process. This book presents how to shift your teaching to an instructional strategy rooted in constructivism; it presents the learning theory behind PBL and sets a strong foundation for the how and why. The intended audience is early childhood educators, and the book definitely addresses the needs and concerns of this age group, but any PK-12 teacher who wants to become a PBL teacher will benefit from reading this book.

Must read for elementary teachers!
This book destroys the myths and misconceptions about how PBL can be used in early childhood (EC). The principles and ideas laid out can be applied for older students too. This book lays out processes for implementing PBL in EC and then uses an actual transitional kindergarten project from Sara's class as a practical example to follow. Favorite parts for me include how Sara models being a coach using curiosity and questions to guide students, formative assessments based on conferencing and observations, and the list of final products for EC. One of the secrets to successful PBL that is demonstrated is how to leave space in planning for authentic student voice and choice. Major aspects of the example project were not pre-planned but developed with students during the inquiry cycle. There is so much practical application for teachers.
