Good for baking
Perfectly good baking lye at a fair price.

Great quality Lye. Makes awesome pretzels.
Made pretzels. The lye works better than boiling in water.

Works well for Pretzels.
We use this for making pretzels and pretzel burger buns. It shipped well sealed and works very well in our home kitchen, I would definitely recommend if you are making pretzels and want to move beyond just baking soda.

Useful product
Not quite as strong as anither brand, but there's not enough difference to justify paying more. I use this in a homemade skin soak and skin salve (with oils) to treat something in my skin that looks like fibers. Nasty stuff. Daily application is working wonders. For someone with this condition, Dr. Bronner's soap, full strength, and a silicone sponge with a tiny bit of water worked into the skin for about 15 minutes also helps.

Now I bake Perfect Soft Pretzels
Got tired of poor results from baking soda dips. I was afraid lye would be too tricky but with proper precautions it sure does the trick. Just be careful and read all precautions for safe use lye. We have Septic so I dilute carefully before dumping down sink.

Used for baking
Bought this for making Bavarian Style Pretzels for Super Bowl Sunday. It was used as a bath to dip the raw pretzel dough in right before baking. Look at that gorgeous color it gave them! Gonna use it for bagels soon. PLEASE NOTE you MUST use it in a well vented spot. It did give off a strong chemical odor when first mixed with water. It dissipated fairly quickly, but be sure you can be in good air flow.

Great for making authentic pretzels
When I told my experienced baker friend that I wanted to make real, authentic German pretzels, he told me I must have food-grade lye and diastatic malt powder. Be sure to read the instructions completely since lye is corrosive—wear gloves. German bakers dip the unbaked, shaped pretzel dough in a diluted lye bath. This gave my California-made pretzels taste like the real thing! I used the King Arthur recipe.
