What you want from a black gesso is firstly density, and this stuff is pretty dark, and secondly consistency - drying to an even matte finish, and this does exactly that. Great for blacking out old paintings or unwanted bits of works in progress! Being supplied in a bottle rather than a canister means less air gets to it when the cap is off, so it doesn't dry out as quickly as some brands I could name (I'm looking at you, W&N). It's also good as a mixer to darken and take the gloss out of other colours - if that's what you want. Top stuff!

I have bought this black gesso for my artist husband on a number of occasions. It covers the canvas well and dries quite quickly.I only gave it one star for sheerness as it isn't meant to be sheer!!

Really nice gesso to work with.Using for priming boards for sign writing.The black is really solid and takes other paints well.

I like to use old canvases and this gesso is perfect for covering old paintings, dries super matt and highly pigmented! You only need a small amount to cover a large area. Love it and would recommend
