Works great with Windows 7
The DVD RW drive in my desktop died recently and I needed a new one. After thinking about it, I opted for an external drive as many of the newer desktop towers no longer include 5 1/4" drive bays. I figure with this guy, I'll be covered for any future desktop or laptop I might acquire. This is a great little drive. The housing is made of plastic, but it still feels pretty solid. It's very slender so it fits easily in my laptop bag. Another nice feature is that it only needs a single USB cable to operate, so no extra AC power brick to lug along with it.Once plugged in, my Win7 desktop and my Win 10 Surface Pro 3 recognized the drive immediately. Although a trial disc for Nero 12 ships with the drive, it's not needed in order to listen to CDs, run software, or browse and burn data DVDs. Additional (free) player software (e.g. VLC, which I already have installed) may be needed for watching DVD movies on Windows though. This has done everything that I've needed.

Could not ask for more in a DVD drive
I have purchased a number of Lite-On drives over the years. Without exception, they have all worked long hard hours without an issue. This drive meets all of my expectations. Its start-up time is very brief compared to other drives I’ve used. When asked to play video, it’s doing it very quickly. The disk drawer has a large cut out to make removing a disc very easy. The only drawback that I found was with the length of the cable supplied. I replaced the included USB cable with one slightly longer with no adverse effects. Lite-On pricing is always unbelievable (in a good way, that is). No power supply is needed, so just plug the USB cable in and it’s set to go. I hope this helps!

Does The Job
Inexpensive optical drive/burner that does the job without breaking the bank. Recommended if you need an inexpensive external optical drive. Just plug it in via USB and you’re good to go. No need to d/l any external drivers or apps. Simple Plug & Play and that’s it.

works well for what I needed..
It's small, and light.. almost feels fragile.. but my case don't have a optical drive mounting option.. so I needed something for the occasions that I need to use an optical drive.. and yes.. you can boot / install from it.. haven't done much with it.. except to test to make sure it works in my use case.. and it does :)

Burning CDs Greater Than 80Minutes/700MB Meaning 90Minutes/800MB CDs And It Still Only Looks At It As An 80Minute/700MB CD Does This Thing Support Overburning At All?

Does work on Macs!
First, I was a little nervous about buying this drive because it didn't say that it was Mac compatible. There was another selling for twice as much that looked like the same thing that said it was Mac compatible, so I took a risk.It paid off!I had a Sony drive before this that was rather flaky. As the person who advised me to get this drive said, I bought it and never looked back.Should I ever need another drive like this one, I'm getting another of these!

Great alternative to the Apple Superdrive.
For nearly less than half the cost of an Apple Superdrive this unit seems like a great alternative.Pros:Lightweight chassis (looks like simulated brushed metal)Uses only one USB cable, doesn't need external power or secondary USB port taken up to power.I like the tray because you don't have to worry about disks getting stuck. We have experienced several Superdrives that have stuck disks due to faulty eject mechanisms or kids trying to insert a disk while one was already in.Cons:None
