For my Reol NVR, working well so far
I got this for my RLK8 Channel NVR to upgrade from 2TB to 2+6=8. Had to also get a SATA data cable and SATA power splitter (search here for it only $6.19) to connect it because this drive needs both 5v and 12v power. Otherwise I would have used the 22 pin SATA to ESATA with USB power adapter cable to make it a little cleaner final configuration. As it is though, it seems to be working fine, the NVR recognized it, took about 10 secs to format it and I was up and running.Turns out I could have gone to a 8TB drive and my NVR was new enough to recognize it, but there was a pretty significant price jump for the extra 2TB so I opted for this. Seems like an amazing deal for 6TB of room that quadruples my NvR recording time. Not a bad deal. The drive wasn’t in a new factory box. It was hand packed in bubble wrap, but it was in a sealed anti-stat bag and appeared to be brand new so I’m happy

Great product
This HDD is really fast and useful for my DVR system. It was a plug and play. Really recommend it.

So Happy I Got The 6TB!!!
So glad I invested on this hard drive. I have four 4K Swann Cameras. 2 are in 24/7 recording and 2 in motion detection only. I still have over 4,000 Gigabytes available. You can hardly hear this hard drive running and I mean literally putting my ear on the NVR box. That's how quiet it is. And installing it was a breeze. Please don't waste your money on paying an expert. I simply went on YouTube and searched it. After watching JUST 3 videos, I was more than ready for the simple installation. I end with this: Having peace of mind knowing you have over a months worth of memory, is priceless!🖖

What is this mystery AllFrame technology?
It took a lot of web searches to untangle the vague marketing from WD and find out what AllFrame technology really means. In a nutshell, the hard drive firmware on this drive will prioritize the timeliness of video streams instead of trying to make sure that the data is absolutely correct (which can lead to long pauses and dropped video frames). The idea is that it would be better to have a bit of imperfection in the data (the video stream) rather than the whole image dropping out for a moment. This is accomplished through the "ATA Streaming Command Set."The slow 5400 RPM rotation means that this Purple drive is very quiet (this is its best feature, if you're using it for a Home Theater system and need a super quiet environment) and it generates less heat than a 7200 RPM drive in continuous operation. The WD Purple NV drive is almost identical except it has a few more enterprise level features such as vibration control and a more durable outer case, and support for double the number of video streams (64) through the ATA Command Set.I also highly recommend a RAID 10 configuration with a good Adaptec (or other reputable brand) RAID controller card to ensure that you can write the video streams to the hard drive fast enough when you have multiple surveillance cameras and/or high definition resolution streams.

Makes you a good person.
These are very nice drives. Love the huge space. I use them with my camera system to keep recordings of people I know and don't know. I feel totally 1984, but only I'm a good person.

OUTSTANDING Directv hr54 external data drive making it go from 1TB to 6TB is minutes! Excellent!
6TB for extending my Directv HR54 internal hard drive of 1tb to this 6tb! Works like a charm with a rosewill rx-358 v2 enclosure. The DTV receiver found the drive right away and starting working right from a fresh restart once seat cable was connected out of dvd to enclosure. Amazing about of space for tons of HD content to DVR, extremely happy so far. WD drives never disappoint IMO. This also fits right into the dvd as a native drive as well, i tested it.

Popped it in and it worked like a harddisk should
Received this just today. Popped it in and it worked like a harddisk should, no third-party software, no drama. Just initialized the drive in the disk management console in Windows as a GPT drive and I'm able to utilize the entire disk contiguously. Only time will tell how this drive does in the long run but I've had very good experiences with WD, and for the price I am already very happy with my decision.

Failed after 2 years
Put into a security DVR system in an external SATA drive enclosure. Started to have intermittent problems after 2 years and completely failed quickly.Warranty is "3 Years" but in reality, it's tied to the S/N which pre-dates your purchasing date by a lot. You might get 2 years or less warranty in reality.
